Make a Halloween Trick or Treat Goody Sack

Halloween is Coming! Make a Halloween Trick or Treat Goody Sack with Your Child!

If your little one is going Trick or Treating then you know what this means - they are going to come home with literally buckets of candy! Somehow your children seem to make our like bandits on Halloween, even if they only travel two or three blocks on Halloween night.

Here is a craft idea to make a cute Halloween Trick or Treat Goody Sack. This is a fun craft that you can make for them to carry on Halloween night, or you can do this craft with them.

For this craft you will need:

A white or a light green pillowcase

Large foam stamps, letters of the alphabet and Halloween shapes

Fabric paint in traditional Halloween colors and other bright colors that you like

Permanent markers in different colors

Begin by putting the pillowcase on a flat surface, with cardboard inside the pillowcase. You want to have something thick so the paint and markers will not soak through the pillowcase while you work on it. Wash the pillowcase if needed before this project. Put down newspapers to protect the surface you are working on, the best place is a kitchen table or somewhere that is easy to clean up.

Start by thinking of what design you would like on the pillowcase. A great idea for a Halloween Trick or Treat Goody Sack could be to stamp some pumpkins on the sack and then to stamp "Happy Halloween" and your child's first name on the sack. Or you could stamp "Trick or Treat!" and then your child's first name on the sack. Some other great Halloween stamp ideas are bats, black cats, witches' hats and the full moon. A large craft store will have a variety of stamp options for you.

It is probably best to start by stamping the message you want on the pillowcase, then to put the images down. This ensures that you have plenty of room for the words you are using. If you are unsure, before starting, lightly pencil them in on the goody sack.

Allow the goody sack to fully dry before working on the other side. You can do the same design on the other side, or something entirely different. It can be fun to do something entirely different on the other side and this can look very cute.

What is great about this craft is that your child can use this goody sack again and again each year. Having your child's name on it also ensures if there are other children in the household that everyone knows whose Halloween candy is in which goody sack. This is a fun craft, great to do just before Halloween.

Happy Halloween!

That's an excellent and very important point Margaret -- thank you for sharing that, I appreciate your thoughts on that and will keep it in mind for future children's crafts! :)

This looks like a cute craft, but I would discourage putting a child's name on anything which will be visible when they are in public. Imagine a would-be abductor saying "Hey, Jack. Remember me from your mom's work?" etc. The child is lulled by the person knowing their name. Please think twice about children's names on things.
