Make Hand Washing Fun for Kids

A Bit of Hand Washing Creativity Adds Up to Fun for Kids, Not to Mention Cleaner Hands

Layla Lair
Kids are busy creatures. There will always be a favorite video game, or the latest "can't wait to watch T.V. show." Taking the time to wash hands before meals and after bathroom breaks does not hold any importance on many kids tall list of things to do. With a few creative tips and suggestions, parents can turn hand washing into the new "can't wait to do" activity.

For kids, choose good smelling and fun themed antibacterial hand soaps and supplies.

Antibacterial hand soaps now come in popular scents and happening colors that delight the senses as well as entertain. Bath and Body works has a wonderful line of antibacterial soaps and hand cleaning products that are targeted and designed just for kids. The foaming hand soaps as well as the deep cleaning soaps are antibacterial and kick hand washing up that added notch. The variety and selection available at Bath and Body Works make it easy to find something for even the most persnickety of kids.

Having kids favorite character on the hand soap can be the selling ticket to washing longer, or even washing at all in some cases. Many department stores sell antibacterial soaps that come in packaging that promotes many of the shows kids are in a rave over. Popular characters and colored antibacterial foam soap can make some kids change their mind about the humdrum idea of hand washing.

Around the holidays, many stores sell cute and fun hand washing gift sets that are eye catching and very reasonable priced. A small investment in an antibacterial gift set just might make a splash when starting a new hand washing routine, and a hero out of mom or dad to boot.

Make hand washing a fun and positive activity for both kids and adults.

Promote hand washing as a family event before meals and at appropriate times to teach kids good hygiene now and later in life. Let the old saying about kids repeating what they see work for you and join in with your child to encourage good hand washing skills.

The Centers for Disease and Control recommends hand washing for about 20 seconds so choose a jingle or theme from your child's most favorite television show or movie. Encourage kids to sing aloud as they wash. Keep it light hearted and sing along with them . When the songs up, so is your time. Hands should be clean and germs are out of there.

In todays busy and sometimes hectic lifestyle every moment counts. Be creative and enjoy these moments with your kids to the fullest. Throwing a little imagination into the mix will keep kids from thinking of hand washing as a chore. With a little luck, it may leave them thinking mom or dad really rocks.

This could have helped me out and my older brother years ago. It was hard enough to get us to brush our teeth back then. Thanks.

Great ideas. My toddler has always loved to wash her hands thanks to the foaming soap. She sings "rub rub rub" as she rubs her hands together. I just hope that she stays this excited about it!
