Make Your Home Beautiful -Installation of Stained Glass Windows

In ancient history, the most common place where stained glass was used was in cathedrals. At that time, installation of the same was quite simple because openings were made in the stones and the concrete structures. Bars and metal loops were fixed by cement into the openings of the windows as construction was going on. This was to enable soldering of the metal bats and loops attached to the glass stained window. These days, stained glass is not restricted to religious structure but also to homes and even office buildings. The big question would then be: how can one install the stained glass on their own?

There are many options that are there to choose from.

One of the ways this can be done is by installing the stained glass window over a window that is already in existence. The overlay of the stained glass window should be smaller by 1/8 of an inch on all edges of the window. Before going ahead, make sure that the existing window is clean and dry. It is important to make sure that the panel of the stained glass fits well into the window. One can place 1/8 inch of cardboard on the bottom part of the window. This can be followed by running a small bead of caulk on the inside edge of the frame of the window.

The caulk that is used can either be clear or colored, but the colors should match with the window frame. The stained glass panel should then be pressed into its place and additional caulk should be put with great care. Smoothen out the caulk by use of the fingers as the excess caulk is wiped using a clean tissue. It is of great importance that the caulk does not come into contact with the stained glass. Once in place, it will need to be secured for about 24 hours so that the caulk can set well.

One can use pieces of cardboard or wood blocks so that the window is braced in the right place. One can consider the installation complete. One can also be creative and add some wood trim on the inside to enable stability. The stained glass window can also be used as one of the hangings on the window.

In case you want to have the stained glass panel fit into wood, aluminum or vinyl window frame, then the best thing to do is get professional help. Trying to do this on your own may mess up your work completely.

So, you now all the information you need. You can always search for more information on this on the internet and install that stained glass window in your home.
