The secret is this...a variety of scents in each room. Now, I know you are thinking, oh my, how expensive is this going to be? But it does not have to be! You can make your house smell just as good as a candle shop with out spending massive amounts of money on high end candles.
Your first step needs to be choosing themed scents of candles. You want a variety of well mixing scents in each room. Below is a few scent ideas that mix well together and the rooms they should go in.
The Kitchen
You want your kitchen to smell like something has been freshly baked every morning, so the best way to go about that is to find food or spice scented candles, such as Orange, Apple, or Cinnamon.
The Bathroom
The "smelliest" room in the house, should always smell like roses! Well, really any floral scent is best for the bathroom. You could also use an ocean or a light fruity scent. The idea is a clean smell that makes it seem like the bathroom has just been cleaned, even when it hasn't.
The Living Room
This is usually the room people walk into when they come into your home. You want this to be the room with the most candles. In this room I suggest a light, welcoming, such as pine, ginger, or holly.
The Bedroom
You want your bedroom to be a relaxing place where you can easily lay your head down on your pillow and fall asleep. You do not want to be tossing and turning all night, so you need to keep relaxing, calming scents in your room such as, Vanilla or Lavender.
You should have at least 3 coordinating scents in each room, spread them around, place them in different corners and you will be on your way to creating a beautiful sweet smelling aroma just like the candle store! Try visiting your local dollar store, you will be surprised at their candle selection and how much money you can save while still creating the smell you are looking for!

I love vanilla candles, they make my house smell like cake. Mmmmm.
Kelly, My husband does the same thing! I know my dad does too, my step mother is always complaining about him saying they stink, but they don't! They smell beautiful :)
my aunt does this and her house smells so good. I'm just starting to do the same thing. I had all my candles lit last night and the result was terrific. If only I can convince my husband to stop blowing them out...
