Make an Inexpensive Water Fountain to Beautify Your Home
You Don't Have to Buy a Fountain for Your Home
Anyone can make an inexpensive fountain, inside their home.
1- There's one piece of equipment you must have when making any kind of fountain. The pump. Pumps can range from $7.00 and up. Some small pumps are just as powerful as large ones. Shop around. Fish tank pumps are perfect for small fountains. You can buy pumps at any pet, hardware, or garden store. Jewels Osco and Walmart supplies aquarium equipment for very little cost. With an aquarium, you'll get the pump and the tubing. Always read your instructions, electricity and water are a dangerous combination. Don't worry though, if you can set up a small fish tank, you can make a fountain.
2- The second material you need is the bowel. Anything waterproof will do. The bowl or the container holds the water, the pump, and your decorations. You can choose any kind of container you want, ceramic, glass, metal, flower pots, cookware, etc. No need to buy one. Remember though, the heavier the container, the less vibration from the pump. If you want an earthy look, choose a container made from natural materials. For a whimsical fountain, try ceramic or paint your container.
3- Next, you'll need to decorate inside the fountain. This is the fun part. There are numerous materials you can use. Rocks, pebbles, shells. glass, marbels, artificial or live flowers would work. Be creative, show your own individuality. You can also place a small container inside your fountain and allow the water to flow through it, down to the first container. (giving it a layered look) Adding live plants are also nice. Place a small plant inside a small jar and place inside your fountain. (for a natural look)
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Get your bowel or container.
- Place your pump at the bottom of the container. You can use rocks or a suction cup to hold the pump in place.
- Add a small amount of water, depending on your container. 1/4th will do.
- Your tubing has to be cut ti fix your container. This isn't hard. Imagine where you would like the water to start flowing, from the pump spout, to that point, cut. Fit one end to the pump spout, the other end is where the water will flow.
- Arrange your rocks or decorations to cover the pump. Then be creative. Stack your rocks to make the waterflow you desire.
- Plug in the pump and adjust the water to your liking.
- Decorate the top of the fountain anyway you want. Plants, marbels, colorful shells, whatever you like.
You can place your fountain anywhere you like. A bedroom fountain will relax you for sleeping. A livingroom fountain would be a great conversation piece. A bathroom fountain is perfect for long soothing baths. It's up to you! Enjoy.

I have a piece of glass 3', 8" x 2' 6", 1/4 inch thick that someone was throwing away. Can I make an indoor fountain out of this?
