The first is a simple Vanishing Ink Scroll. If possible, it should be delivered by an owl. Start by dyeing your paper and making it look old. This can be done by placing sheets of regular white paper in a bath of very strong coffee or tea for five minutes. Then hang the paper in the sun to dry. It will take on a wrinkled, aged parchment look. If you think it needs more color, just use watercolors to touch it up.
Now, cut each sheet of paper into quarters and have an adult singe the edges with a candle flame to make it look a bit older. Rub off any ashes and you are ready to start writing with invisible ink.
Use a toothpick dipped into fresh lemon or lime juice to write your message. While your ink is drying, take a piece of silver or grey silk ribbon and cut into 8" lengths. Use a fabric pen to write "Iron this Document" on each length of ribbon. Then roll the parchment up and tied it with the ribbon so that the words are visible. The invitee will need to iron the invitation so that the heat will make the invisible ink come out.
The second invitation is a Magical Wizard's Wand. You will need a stick for each invite. The sticks need to be about 12-18" long and the more crooked, the better. Clean and dry your sticks, then take a hot glue gun and drizzle silicon glue in random patterns and swirls around the lower half of the wand. Let this harden, then paint the entire wand in brown or grey acrylic paint.
The next step is to paint the raised glue parts in gold or silver metallic paint. This will help them stand out. Use a rag dipped in shoe polish to buff the entire wand and make it look antique. Rub as much of the polish off as possible with a clean rag. The black will stay in the grooves and cracks of your wand.
Now, make a little card to tie onto your wands. The card should read something like, "Please bring your wand and yourself . . . ." and add the party details. Decorate the edges of the card with gold paint and use a gold or silver thread to tie it to the wand. Hand out the wands to your invites for a very unique invitation.
With these two fantastic, magic invitations, you are bound to have plenty of willing young wizards coming to your party. Now all you need are some fun activities and great Hogwart-style food to make the party a hit!
