Make a Moisturizing Skin Cream with Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Eggs, Lemon Juice

Our skin can become dry during any season. However, many people experience dry skin during winter due to cold wind and dry indoor heating that robs their skin of moisture. This can lead to dry skin that is flaky, irritated, itchy and just plain unattractive.

Commercial skin cream often isn't moisturizing enough to properly moisturize skin afflicted with dryness and winter itch. Commercial skin creams are also expensive and contain toxins your skin is better off without.

I formulated the following moisturizing skin cream recipe to remedy my dry, irritated and often itchy skin during winter. The moisturizing skin cream recipe is easy to make and calls for inexpensive, natural ingredients.

You will need these containers and implements to make this moisturizing skin cream recipe: one medium sized mixing bowl; measuring cup; wire whisk; saucepan; large wooden spoon for stirring; sharp knife and a small jar or bowl with an airtight lid.

You will need these ingredients to prepare the moisturizing skin cream recipe: one large egg; one small lemon; four ounces coconut oil; four ounces of soybean oil and four capsules of Vitamin E.

Begin preparing the moisturizing skin cream recipe by separating the egg yolk from the egg white. You can then discard the egg white, as only the egg yolk will be used in this recipe. Put the egg yolk into the mixing bowl and beat it with the wire whisk until it is frothy.

The egg yolk is mainly used in the moisturizing skin cream recipe as an emulsifier which will thicken the moisturizing skin cream and keep its ingredients from separating. However, egg yolks also contain sulfur and natural moisturizing compounds which when used in the moisturizing skin cream recipe will moisturize your skin and tighten your pores.

Next, measure four ounces of coconut oil into the saucepan and heat the oil over low heat until it melts. Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, melting it will help you blend it well with the other ingredients in the moisturizing skin cream recipe.

Coconut oil is a rich source of naturally moisturizing compounds. It is also light in color and has little scent making it a good choice for inclusion in the moisturizing skin cream recipe.

While the coconut oil is melting cut the small lemon in half. You will only need half of the lemon for the moisturizing skin cream recipe. Cut the lemon half into easily squeezable slices and squeeze the juice from the slices into the mixing bowl. Then whisk the egg yolk and lemon juice together until well blended.

Lemon juice is naturally astringent. It also has a high vitamin C content. Its inclusion in the moisturizing skin cream recipe will help encourage skin cell regeneration and growth and will also give the skin cream a pleasant scent.

After blending the egg yolk and lemon juice the coconut oil should be melted. Pour the coconut oil into the mixing bowl and stir until well blended.

Next, add the soybean oil. Soybean oil is often sold as plain vegetable oil. It is moisturizing, inexpensive and has little scent and color making it a great choice for inclusion in the moisturizing skin cream recipe.

After adding the soybean oil to the moisturizing skin cream recipe, whisk the cream for several minutes until it gets thick. If the moisturizing skin cream gets too thick for your taste, squeeze the juice from a few more slices of lemon into the cream.

for added moisturizing benefits and to increase the shelf life of your moisturizing skin cream squeeze the oil from four vitamin E capsules into the skin cream and stir until well blended. Vitamin E is a naturally moisturizing antioxidant that will encourage skin cell regeneration. Use of Vitamin E in the moisturizing skin cream will increase the shelf life of the cream from 3 days to 6 days.

Use the completed moisturizing skin cream just as you would any lotion. It is gentle enough for use anywhere on the body including your face multiple times per day.

Store the moisturizing skin cream in the airtight container in the refrigerator when not in use.
