Make Money Blogging: Begin with a Free Blog Site

You want to begin on your journey to bringing in some extra cash online and you've decided to try blogging. If you've performed a little research, then you might have begun to wonder if you should use a free blog site, like Blogger or Wordpress, or if you should get your own domain and host the blog on a website. So what's the answer?

Let's examine the advantages of both free blog sites and having your blog hosted on your own paid site.

Advantages of a free blog site

The biggest advantage of having a free blog is probably pretty evident. Did I mention that it was free? With websites like Blogger not only can you have one free blog, you can have literally an unlimited number of free blogs. Another advantage is that it is easier to get listed in search engines especially with Google when using Blogger as your site of choice. You might notice that I'm a fan of Blogger. Two other advantages that I like about the free site Blogger is the ease of adding revenue tools like Adsense and the fact that you don't have to worry about website design or HTML.

Advantages of hosting a blog yourself

What are the advantages of hosting a blog yourself. There are two primary advantages. You have more freedom with customizing the design of your blog and some feel that it adds a more professional appearance to your blog.

You can see from my thoughts above that I personally think that there are more advantages to using free blogs. This is especially true when you're just starting out and have a limited budget with which to begin. The fact that the blogs are free through sites like Blogger makes it even easier for you to make money blogging since you don't have any overheard except for the time involved to write.

Your goal is to earn money by blogging. If you have no expense and you're making money with your blog, then you're certainly expanding your profit margin more than if you're paying for the site. I don't want to seem like I'm bashing the thought of hosting your own blog because you might find that it is best for you in the long run. However, it might be a good idea to try to make money blogging with the free sites first to see if blogging in general is right for you.
