Make Money Reselling Halloween Costumes

Buy and Sell Halloween Costumes for Income

Michy Lynn
Halloween is an over six-billion dollar industry, and Halloween costumes are one of the biggest money-making aspects of Halloween. For the self-employed entrepreneur, using Halloween costumes to make money can bring in a full-time income, without doing too much work. If nothing else, selling Halloween costumes can give you a nice bonus in October, that will come in handy for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season.

Before we look at ways to make money with Halloween costumes, I've written another article about how to make money on Halloween. You can find the article here. It will give you additional ideas for making money on Halloween. Now, let's look at some of the ways to use Halloween costumes to make a little money on Halloween.

Buy Cheap, Sell High: Halloween Costumes Make Money

Every year at the end of the Halloween season, stores mark down all the Halloween costumes and Halloween decorations, some as much as 75% off. If you pick Halloween costumes that aren't dated (such as things popular only that year), you can store them in airtight plastic storage containers, and turn around and sell the costumes yourself the next year.

If you have a retail location for other purposes, simply adding the costumes to your stock starting the end of August works. If you don't have a retail location, consider finding a strip mall or a store in the main mall or in a high-traffic area that might cut you a deal for renting it for the month of October and sell Halloween costumes from there.

Halloween Costumes Make Money Online

The problem with selling Halloween costumes at a retail store location is the cost. Renting a store and the upkeep and staff to manage the store all cost money, then there's employer's taxes and other things. But selling Halloween costumes online can help mitigate some of the costs associated with traditional stores.

From eBay to your own online store, selling or reselling new Halloween costumes can make good money while keeping costs to a minimum. You can store them in plastic containers, keep them in your garage, charge the client for the shipping and have almost no overhead besides the cost of the boxes to ship them in.

Tips for Picking Good Halloween Costumes for Resell

Picking dated costumes will lower their value. Costumes that are good year in and year out include: animals, ghosts, goblins, zombies, vampires, witches, and the like. Halloween makeup is a good resell item too, so people can make their own costumes and use the makeup kits for their faces and skin. Makeup kits for Halloween can usually be purchased cheap at the end of each season too, but be sure to store them well, so the makeup and face paint doesn't dry out.

Homemade Halloween Costumes for Resell

If you have sewing talent and creativity, homemade Halloween costumes can be a big hit for selling online or in retail stores or on consignment to other Halloween specialty stores. If you want to make patterns and sell them, that's another great way to make money on Halloween costumes. Patterns can be purchased for online download or can be mailed.

Great ideas! We usually donate or give away our old costumes. That's if the kids haven't worn them out before they outgrow them.

Great idea! I actually sell my old Halloween costumes on ebay for a couple extra dollars or donate them to the Salvation army if I don't need the money.
