Make More Money Selling Your Children's Clothing at a Garage Sale

Frogdoc
Selling the clothes your children have outgrown is a great way to make a little extra money at a garage sale. On the other hand, it is often difficult to purchase children's clothes at a garage sale if the seller is unorganized or sloppy. So by keeping a few tips in mind, you can increase the amount of money you make from selling your children's clothes at a garage sale.

The first thing to do is to discard stained clothing, or mark them specifically as play clothes and move them to a separate table. Otherwise, a potential customer may see a few pieces of stained clothing and be under the impression that all the clothing is of similar quality and stop looking.

Price the children's clothing to sell. Face it, garage sale goers are wanting a bargain. If the children's clothes are moved to sell you will get rid of everything possible and maximize the amount of money you bring in.

Once you have sorted through and priced the children's clothes, your next step is to organize the clothing. It is difficult to sort through an entire mound of clothing to find a specific size, so many people will not even bother. Separate the clothing with respect to gender, then according to size. Then create signs that correspond to the sizes and gender (for example, girls 2T) at place them next to the clothing of that size and gender. This way, people coming to your sale looking for a specific size will get to see each piece of clothing without having to wade through a pile of clothing they are not interested in.

Hang clothing when possible. It is always quicker to peruse clothing that is hanging rather than in piles on tables and is much less likely to become a jumbled mess by the end of your garage sale. Hanging the children's clothing also gives the appearance that you care and puts in the buyer's mind that the clothes have been well taken care of. A package of ten inexpensive plastic hangers for children's clothing can be purchased for a dollar, and will be worth the investment. Remember, you can keep the hangers and use them again in subsequent years. It is also a good idea to iron pieces that are excessively wrinkled, especially if they are nice pieces. A few extra minutes at the iron can bring in a few extra dollars.

If you have nowhere to hang the children's clothing at your garage sale, make sure everything is neatly folded. It is also a good idea periodically throughout your garage sale to straighten piles of clothes and re-fold anything. Also make sure your signs are still in the appropriate places.

Taking a few extra minutes to put forth effort on the organization and presentation of your children's clothes will assure that you get the most money possible for your items.

very sensible tips. I hate garage sales full of stained stuff or just overpriced. I mean, if I can buy it new for the same price at Wal Mart, then why buy used!

I'm keeping your tips in mind this weekend. We're having a community yard sale and I will definitely be putting out some clothes my children have outgrown.

Great ideas. I think separating out the stained clothing also brings the aire of quality to the others.
