Make a Natural Moisturizing Facial Toner Easily with Witch Hazel, Rose and Lemon Juice

Many commercial facial toners available on the market have an alcohol base which can dry out and cause irritation to sensitive skin. Luckily there are natural alternatives that you can easily make to gently cleanse, refresh and moisturize your skin.

This easy to make facial toner calls for inexpensive and easily found ingredients.

You will need these ingredients to prepare the witch hazel rose facial toner recipe: 1 cups witch hazel astringent , 1/8th of an oz. dried rose petals or rose water, 1 cup distilled or spring water (preferably but tap water will do in a pinch) and 2 tablespoon lemon juice

You will need these supplies to prepare the witch hazel rose facial toner recipe: bottle with screw on cap to store finished facial toner, knife for slicing lemon, pan for infusing rose water.

Begin preparing the moisturizing facial toner by pouring one cup of witch hazel astringent into a small mixing bowl. You can find witch hazel in most grocery and discount stores in the first aid supplies aisle. Witch hazel is a great addition to any facial toner because it naturally cleanses. This facial toner recipe uses witch hazel as the main ingredient because it is very gentle, non-drying and won't irritate sensitive skin the way toners based on pure alcohol do. I use witch hazel in my facial toner daily to keep my skin feeling clean and refreshed. Witch hazel also has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties making it a great choice to combat acne while soothing and reducing facial swelling.

Next, add an extra cleansing and antioxidant punch to the facial toner by adding 2 tablespoon of fresh squeezed lemon juice to the witch hazel. Lemon juice is packed with Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant that encourages cell growth and skin renewal. The lemon juice in the toner will also help flush toxins from your skin which will help combat acne and even out your skin tone every time you use the facial toner. Lemon juices presence in the facial toner will also leave your skin toned and glowing.

Witch hazel and lemon juice form a dynamic partnership for cleansing and brightening skin in this facial toner but adding a half a cup of rose water to the facial toner will yield even more skin benefits. True rose water (the steam distillation of rose oil) is a natural beauty powerhouse because rose is an incredible source of anti-oxidants and is naturally astringent. Using rose water in the facial toner will leave your skin feeling soft and smooth; it will also help combat acne and blemishes and encourage skin cell renewal. True rose water is time consuming to make but you can get close to the same benefits in your facial toner by brewing an infusion of rose water.

The process for brewing a rose water infusion for the facial toner is quite similar to making tea. When making a rose water infusion it's important that you allow the rose to simmer in a saucepan of distilled water over very low heat. The longer you simmer the rose in the water the better but 45 minutes should be long enough for use in the facial toner. Keep the pan covered while simmering to stop any of the rose's essential oil from vaporizing and escaping the infusion. Do not use boiling water as this will cause the essential oils in the roses to quickly vaporize.

After simmering the roses for 45 minutes you can strain them out if you wish or leave them in and add ½ cup of the infusion to the facial toner. The rose petals will continue to slowly infuse into the facial toner over time and also make the facial toner look as beautiful as it is effective.

Pour the completed facial toner into a bottle and store the toner in the refrigerator. This facial toner has a very long shelf life due to the lemon juice and witch hazel in the toner; the facial toner will stay fresh for weeks in the refrigerator. Use the facial toner twice daily or any time you'd like your skin to feel fresh and clean.
