Babies and toddlers eat baby food for such a short period of time you would hate to invest in a lot of equipment to make your own. Fortunately you just need a few basics that you probably have in your house. You need to have a few ice cube trays, a blender, and some organic fruits and vegetables.
One of my daughters favorite veggies was carrots. I would buy organic carrots, peal them, cut them in little chunks and steam them. After I they are soft I simply blend them in the blender. you will need to add a little water to the blender. The amount will be determined on how old your baby is. The younger the baby the more water you will want to add. I simply add the baby food into ice cube trays, freeze them, and pop them out as needed.
Now that you know how easy it is to make lets review why it is best to make your own baby food. The first and most important reason is that you will know what is going into your babies body. You can chose only organic vegetables and select the freshest and firmest of the bunch to puree.
Making your own baby food does more then just give you piece of mind that you are providing the best nutrition for your child, it also helps you save money. Baby food runs about fifty cents a jar on average. It can get pretty pricey. The best part of making your own baby food is that it will cost you pennies a serving. A one pound bag of organic carrots costs around $1.50. That bag will make at least twenty four servings of baby food.
Making your own baby food also gives you a sense of pride. You can be proud that you are taking a little extra time out of your day to ensure your child's getting the best possible nutrition.
Your baby food will be saving the environment. Just think of all of the jars of baby food that will not end up in landfills because you are not buying them!
With all this in mind why would you not want to make your own baby food? Have fun, mix up a variety of fruits and vegetables to make your own special creation, and smile because you are giving your child the best possible nutrition for your baby.

Post a CommentI did this 20 plus years ago!...lol. It just didnt make sense to me, to buy baby food, when if ya ran your food thru the blender, it looks just like that in the baby food jars!...lol. Great info for sure!
I agree with your points in this article. I tried to make most of my daughter's food when she was a baby and it was healthier. Great article!
This is certainly a healthier alternative. Great job. :-)
If you cut out a few hours on a weekend to steam and puree foods, it's a really economical way to go. I still puree foods and sneak them into my kids' food! Great article!
My oldest son has a eating disorder, where it takes him a long time to swallow a bite of food, I used to make baby food out of our regular meals to help speed the process. Great article!
This is exactly what I did for my children when they were babies...................saves a lot of money!
Excellent, I am glad I don'thave to worry about feeding babies anymore but my daughter in law will love this information.
I agree whole heartedly. If my children were babies now, I would definitely make my own baby food. I hate what goes into foods these days.
some great info
Great information. Babies would all be a lot better off, as would mom's pocketbook, if more parents took this advice.
