Make Your Own Boy's Birthday Party Invitations
Create Memories with DIY Birthday Party Invitations for Boys
Before starting, let your son pick out his own theme for his birthday party. Let the theme serve a guide for creating his birthday party invitations. For younger children, pick a theme around his age or favorite toy or game. For older boys, some appropriate boy birthday party invitation themes could involve sports, games, movies, television show characters or music.
Whether you're an artist or savvy on the computer, unique birthday party invitations for boys can be created easily either by hand or by using a computer and printer.
DIY Hand-Crafted Boys Birthday Party Invitations
If you only have a to make a couple birthday party invitations and prefer to make the birthday invitations completely by hand, you'll want to have the following supplies available: white cardstock, colored cardstock, craft glue or glue stick, markers or colored pencils, stickers and envelopes large enough to hold the invitation. Lettering stencils are handy to use as well.
Use the envelope you'll be using to the mail the boys birthday party invitation as the guide for designing your invitation. If using a standard number 10 business envelope a standard letter size piece of card stock folded three times will fit in the envelope or you can fold into two, four-inch sections and cut off the extra paper. A letter-sized piece of paper folded in half will fit most gift card envelopes sold at craft and office supply stores.
For a sports themed boys birthday party invitation, fold a letter-sized piece of paper in half and cut out a partial circle on the front panel to mimic part of a baseball. Use a marker or colored pencil to draw a line and marks for the baseball stitching. Use a stencil or simply handwrite on the front of the invitation. If using a stencil, let your son color in the letters.
On the inside of the birthday party invitation, use a smaller square of card stock and print the party details including the date, time and location of the party. Be sure to include your phone number as well. Use craft glue or glue stick and glue to the inside of the card. To add additional interest to the inside use brown cardstock to cut out a bat and white cardstock to cut out a small baseball. Or if you have any sports themed-stickers let your son place them on the inside of the invitation.
A time-saving tip for hand-crafted cards is to use your computer and word processing software to type up the party details and have this information preprinted for easy application to the inside of the birthday party invitation.
Making Your Own Boys Birthday Party Invitations on the Computer
When you need to create several boy birthday party invitations, using a computer and printer can really speed up the process.
Supplies you'll need to create boys birthday party invitations on the computer include a computer, printer, cardstock or postcards designed to work with your printer, clip art or digital images, envelopes and software such as Microsoft Word.
To quickly design unique invitations, I like to use the postcards available from Avery and use the templates in Microsoft Word to create and print up to four invitations at a time.
To create boys birthday party invitations using Microsoft Word 2003, open a new document. Go to the tools menu and select letters and mailings. Choose envelopes and labels from the options menu. For postcards, choose the Avery template number designated on the package. For this example, I am using the Avery standard, 8387 postcard. Then click on New Document. A template will appear showing you four postcards on a single page.
You can create your first invitation by inserting clip art, using a photograph of your son and then adding the appropriate information on your invitation to detail the date, location and time of the party. Be sure to include your contact information as well if you want guests to RSVP. Once you have the first birthday party invitation designed, you can highlight everything in that cell and select copy from the edit menu. Move to the next cell in the template and select paste from the edit menu. You will now have two of the invitations in your layout. Repeat the steps for the remaining two cells on the template. Then all you need to do is print out the invitations.
Help your son celebrate his next birthday by creating unique birthday party invitations from scratch. It's a fun project you can work on together and a tradition he'll look forward to year after year.
