Make Your Own Computer Games to Play

Creating computer games to play is not an easy task. In fact, the best PC games take a lot of work and a variety of skills. But with some practice and the right tools, you can make computer games to play that will entertain you and your friends, and modify them as you see fit.

To start, download a copy of Game Maker or a similar software tool that allows drag-and-drop video game creation. Such tools allow you to import your own art work and sound files and then assemble them into functional computer games to play.

After downloading the software, think about what kind of computer games to play you would like to make. Start with something simple. You can create classic two-dimensional scroller computer games to play, similar to Super Mario Brothers, without too much effort. Some of the best PC games use this format.

Now create your graphics. Use a drawing program such as Paint Shop Pro to paint large images to use as backgrounds. Be sure to make your background images the same size as the screen resolution you choose for your game. The best PC games have interesting backgrounds to set the tone.

You will need to create multiple frames for animated characters. First, decide how large you want the characters to be in your computer games to play. Then create several boxes of that size. In each box, draw your character in a slightly different pose so that, when shown in sequence, your character will appear to be moving. You'll have to use trial and error to get it right. If you have trouble, you can find images for free on the Internet to use in your computer games to play.

Now record sound files for your computer games to play. Get creative and find original ways to make the sounds your game will require. Record these sounds as WAV files, using a microphone attached to your computer's sound card.

Start a new game project using your video game creation software, and then import your graphics and sounds. Specify your background image, and then set up the animation for your character tiles.

Use the interaction buttons in your software to set up events. For example, you'll need to specify what happens when a character image collides with an enemy image. These interactions are the foundation of your computer games to play. You will want to make plenty of adjustments and test frequently to make sure your settings are optimal and result in exciting computer games to play.

When you have tested your game and fine tuned it for ultimate fun, share it with your friends. Perhaps you will inspire them to create some computer games to play as well.
