Make your season merry and bright with homemade Christmas decorations. Not only will the homemade touch give your home decor personality, but a country theme will add to the warmth. It is easy to decorate with your own personal touches. Just look around; what can you adapt and utilize as tree ornaments or wall hangings? Here are just a few ideas.
Decorate with pine cones
Pine cones make great Christmas decorations, and they can be used in a variety of ways. To turn them into tree ornaments, spray paint the pine cones silver and hang them from the branches with red ribbon. Add a little sparkle with glitter and glue. Or, make a table centerpiece using a large pillar candle and painted cones on a shallow dish. Customize your pine cone decor to work with your home decor.
Decorate with ribbon and bows
Ribbons and bows are very festive, and they are not just for adding a pretty touch to the Christmas presents. Use an oversize bow as a tree topper, for example. Wrap ribbon around candles, hang it over the doorway with mistletoe or top everyday household items with bows to add a fun, Christmasy touch.
Homemade signs and wreaths
Make a homemade wreath for the holidays using tree branches, pine cones, fruit, seasonal flowers and so on. Personalize it by spray painting the pine cones--or the entire thing--in your favorite Christmas inspired color. Hang your wreath on the door using a wreath hook. Do you have scraps of wood lying around? Paint over it and write holiday messages on the sign to welcome visitors and to inspire family members. Make sure to hang your sign using hardware that has enough strength.
Decorate with cards
Instead of tossing all your holiday greeting cards into a basket, turn them into part of your Christmas decor. There are various card holders available on the market for hanging your cards in an organized fashion, but you can make your own to save money. Use wide ribbon in red and green. Hang the ribbon down a door in your home and attach your cards to the ribbon, avoiding the cluttered look by leaving space between each one. If you receive dozens of cards each year, consider hanging them on a wall instead.

Post a CommentI always hang my cards up...my mother did, her mother did. That's about the only decorations that will go up this year - or until Ruby is old enough to leave things alone!
