The only required items in making your designer dog leash is:
¾" to 1" round eye swivel bolt snap
Rope, leather or fabric 20" to 2 feet longer than final length of leash desired
You say, round eye swivel bolt snap, what's that? That is the metal piece that is on the end of every leash. It attaches to the ring on your dogs collar. They sell them at most every hardware store and even on Ebay. In a nutshell, making a designer dog leash is as simple as attaching this piece to the end of your rope, leather or material.
To make an exceptional designer dog leash it is better to plan ahead. If your dog is large or tends to pull on leash, you will want to use a thicker rope or material. If you have colors or patterns you prefer, take that into consideration. Do you want something simple or would you rather add beads to it? Would you like to personalize your dogs name on his designer dog leash? Would you rather use a nylon or cotton rope? Would you like to use fabric with a dog bone print on it? If you plan it out, the end result may be more desirable.
Making a designer dog leash out of nylon or cotton rope is probably the easiest.
Step 1: Tie a knot at the end and attach the swivel bolt snap
Step 2: Make sure it is very secure so your dog will not get loose
Step 3: (Optional)You can add loop at other end for your hand
Making a designer dog leash out of fabric or material is much the same. Only difference is that you will need to sew edges so that sides are smooth. You can use letter beads to personalize your dog's name. Sew pretty beads onto leash. Bedazzle or superglue sequins onto your designer dog leash. If your dog likes to chew on things he shouldn't, make sure the leash is out of reach when unsupervised.
