Heat embossing makes beautiful cards and striking scrapbook pages. I will share my love of melting beautiful powders by demonstrating how to create two different cards. I have been embossing for years and have found that family and friends would much rather receive a handmade gift over a store-bought one. Embossing powder comes in an array of colors from Kaleidoscope (transparent) to Black Diamond. Gold and silver embossing powders create elegant wedding invitations or Christmas cards. Embossing can be done with rubber stamps using a watermark stamp pad or without rubber stamps using a watermark pen. I will be using rubber stamps, a watermark stamp pad, and embossing powder. The cards are titled "Believe" and "I Love You."
All of the supplies can be found at a craft store such as Michaels. Look for a 40-percent off coupon when purchasing high price items such as the embossing heat tool. Coupons can be found and printed at Michaels.com. Click on their weekly ad to print coupons.
What you need:
Rubber stamps of your choice (I will be using words that say I love you and believe)
Embossing powder in colors of your choice (I will be using silver and red)
Embossing heat tool
Watermark stamp pad
Card stock
Translucent vellum
Scrap paper
Paper cutter or scissors
Gold and silver brads
1/16 circle hand puncher
Stamp cleaner, baby wipes, or a paper towel and soap (to clean rubber stamps)
Card No. 1 Believe
Step 1
Decide what color card stock you will be using, and then cut it in half. Once the card stock is cut in half, fold it to form a card.
Step 2
Place the rubber stamp into the watermark stamp pad and then onto the vellum. The image will appear clear, making it hard to see until the embossing powder is poured over it. Next, pour silver embossing powder over the top of the clear image. Pour the excess powder onto scrap paper, and then back into the jar.
Step 3
Use the embossing heat tool to melt the powder, holding it about one to two inches away from the vellum.
Step 4
Cut the vellum to fit the card. Using the hole puncher, punch holes through the top of the vellum and through the card stock. Insert silver brads to match the silver embossed image. The brads will hold the vellum in place. Write or stamp whatever you would like inside the card. This would make a great inspirational or wedding card. For a wedding card you could write "in love" on the inside of the card. The finished sentence would read, "Believe in love."
Card No. 2 I Love You
Step 1
Decide what color card stock you will be using, and then cut it in half. Once the card stock is cut in half, fold it to form a card. I used sky blue card stock to contrast the red embossing powder.
Step 2
Place the rubber stamp into the watermark stamp pad and then onto the white card stock. Pour red embossing powder over top, saving the excess.
Step 3
Use the embossing heat tool to melt the powder .
Step 4
Use the hole puncher and gold brads to attach the embossed image onto the card stock. This would make a great anniversary or Valentine's Day card.
