Make Your Own Herbal First Aid Kit for Summer

This article will show you how to put together an herbal first aid kit for the summer months.

An herbal first aid kit is an invaluable source of healing from a variety of ailments. From bee stings to sunburns you will have it covered! Many of the following herbal remedies are used for a variety of ailments so it is super cost effective to use herbs for healing. You can expect to pay between $50-100 for the supplies your first aid kit. Many of these remedies will be good year round. You will want to use some sort of container for your first aid kit. It is great if you can make one that is portable for traveling. You could also make a mini kit for traveling as well.

The following are a list of items you can include in your herbal first aid for summer;

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe is useful for sunburns, bites and small scrapes. Be sure to look for natural aloe gel.

Comfrey Salve

Comfrey is a great herb to use in a salve. it is often combined with other soothing herbs such as marshmallow root, St. Johns wort and chickweed. A good multi purpose salve is ideal for all kinds of minor scrapes, bites, stings, rashes and burns.

Arnica Oil

Arnica oil is useful for many things. Bumps, bruises, sprains, strains and sore muscles will benefit from arnica oil.

Rescue Remedy

Rescue Remedy is a homeopathic flower remedy. This remedy is good for shock and calming nerves. it is great fro stress and all stressful situations. It can also be given to children.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is good for burns, blisters as well as cuts and scrapes. It can be used neat (undiluted) or diluted in oil. It makes a wonderful addition to a relaxing bath to help sunburn pain.

Clay

Clay is useful mixed into a paste for drawing out splinters. You can mix the clay with equal parts of water to make a thick paste. Cover the skin and then let it dry before using a warm cloth to remove it. it will draw out splinters easily. It is also useful for burns used in this way as well.

Peppermint Tea

Peppermint tea is wonderful for relieving stomach cramps, indigestion, heartburn and more. It can also help with car sickness during long summer car trips.

Ginger Capsules

Ginger capsules are wonderful for any first aid kit but are also useful for after indulging in those summer potlucks and barbecues!

You may wish to also include bandages, gauze and other such items in your first aid kit. it is always useful to keep an extra bandanna and an emergency blanket on hand as well.
