One example of this is homemade hand lotion. This can save you tons of money, depending on where you usually buy lotion. I also like the idea of making my own lotion because then I know exactly what is in it.
Scented Lotion
You will need:
One Cup of Glycerin
One Cup of Rosewater
You will also need some Essential Oil
Pick out a jar of your favorite essential oil, mine is lavender, and add eight to ten drops to the mixture of glycerin and rosewater. You can also use vanilla extract or some other cooking extract instead of the essential oil.
Find a pretty bottle or recycle an old lotion bottle to store your new handmade lotion in. You may need to shake the bottle from time to time to keep everything mixed up.
I have also heard that you can mix a jar of Vaseline with a bottle of cheap hand lotion and it will turn into spa quality lotion. It sounds good, but I have not personally tried it out.
Traditional Hand Lotion
This recipe requires a few more ingredients, but you will probably already have most of them in your home.
You will need:
One Teaspoon of Beeswax
¼ Cup of Cocoa Butter
¼ Cup of Oil (Cooking Oil will be fine)
1/8 Teaspoon of Baking Soda
¼ Cup of Water
5 Drops of Essential Oils (Again, you can also use a cooking extract instead)
Mix it all together and you have yourself an inexpensive all natural hand lotion.
Special Remedy
Here is a little kitchen remedy for extremely dry hands.
Next time you are in the kitchen and your hands are dry from washing dishes, etc. try this out. You probably already have all of the ingredients you need.
Mix two tablespoons of oil with one tablespoon of salt and one tablespoon of sugar. Spread it all over your hands and let it sit for about five minutes before you wash it off with warm water. It's just like services provided at spas except way cheaper!
