Ambrosia Jefferson
Are you feeling the luck of the Irish? Well you should be. Making holiday crafts is always fun and nothing is quite as fun as getting to mix the fun and lucky colors of the Irish for St. Patrick's Day. You and your kids will enjoy this fun and easy Irish Flag Pony Bead project.

Materials:

I, R, S and H letter beads
6 Safety Pins in Size 4
Green, White and Orange Pony Beads
1 Safety pin, coiless Size 2-ΒΌ"

What to do:

Open the size 4 pins and sort them into 3 piles of 2 pins each.

Take each set of 2 and string a different color pony bead on them. So when you're done you will have 2-green, 2-white and 2-orange safety pins. When they are strung close the pins.

Take the coiless pin and open it wide.

Start with your two orange beaded pins and place one on the coiless pin follow it with the Letter H, than place the second orange beaded pin on the coiless and place the S letter after that. Follow the same pattern with the white beads and the following letters and lastly the green beads and its letters.

When you have finished threading the beaded pins and letters onto the coiless pin close it and you are finished.

You can make as many or as few of these pins as you want for St. Patrick's Day, it is a great one on one or group project. If you want to give your kids a little bit of a history lesson while you're working you can tell them what the colors of the Irish flag mean, so they know why they are stringing Green, White and Orange. The green symbolizes the Catholics of Ireland, the Orange is the Protestants of Ireland and the White was placed for the hope of unity between the two groups. The Republic of Irelands National flag was officially adopted in 1919 while the Republic fought for its Independence. The Irish Free State subsequently adopted the flag for its rule from 1922-1937 before finally being given constitutional status in the 1937 Constitution of Ireland.
