Make Your Own Kanye West Halloween Costume

For anyone who wants to dress up as Kanye West for Halloween, this tutorial will show you exactly how to pull it off. Anyone can do this. A lot of the materials you will need to create this costume, you will not need to buy because you should already have them. Anything else you will need to create this costume should be very easy to find, and if you don't have it or you can't borrow it, it should not cost you a lot of money, if any. Now, let's create our Kanye West costume.

Materials & Props

Outfit. The clothes you will need are going to be important to be able to pull off the Kanye West look. So, you are going to need, a pair of bluejeans that are moderately baggy (don't fall off your waist but aren't tight at the legs), a white, long-sleeved, collard shirt (preferably a button up), a bright colored sweater (preferably pink, orange, yellow, etc. or multicolored), a belt with some kind of solid belt buckle, and some white sneakers.

Accessories. The accessories are a must because they will help people see that you are dressed up as Kanye West and not some other hip-hop artists. You need a goatee (the facial hair) which you can buy anyplace that sells attachable facial hair, a short afro wig (optional, but you will need a fitted hat or a trucker style hat if you can't do your own hair like his), a long necklace, that at least hangs down to your upper ab area, with a Jesus face charm (if you can't get one, a different charm is okay), some white shutter shades (that's right, shutter shades not stunner shades), a backpack, and a microphone (optional).

Makeup. Makeup isn't really necessary to make this costume work, but it can help. Kanye West has a chocolate colored skin complexion. So if you want to make your face and/or your hands chocolate colored, you will need to get some chocolate colored makeup. As I mentioned earlier, you need a goatee. So if you're not able to find a goatee that you can attach to your face, you can just draw one on with some makeup.

Wearing the Costume

Step 1 - Applying the Outfit
First, put on the bluejeans with the belt, and strap the belt up. Next, put on the long-sleeved collard shirt and button it up leaving the top two buttons loose (don't button the top two buttons). Now put the sweater on over the long-sleeved collard shirt. Pull the collar of the collard shirt out, and fixed it so that it can be seen, sitting neatly over the top of the sweater. Pull the sleeves of the collard shirt toward your wrists so that they are exposed slightly, from under the sweater. Now, take the bottom of the sweater and the collard shirt and fix it behind your belt buckle so that the belt buckle is exposed. If your belt buckle is not big enough to hold your shirts behind it, tuck the shirts inside your jeans just a little bit in the front, so that the belt buckle can be seen. Last put your white sneakers on. Now you are dressed like Kanye.

Step 2 - Applying the Makeup
As I mentioned earlier, the makeup is not necessary for this costume to work, but if you chose to use makeup go-ahead and apply it now. If you only chose to go with a makeup goatee, likewise, apply it now.

Step 3 - Applying the Accessories
If you chose to go with an attachable goatee, put it on now. The short afro was optional, but if you got one put it on. Next, put the necklace on and make sure it hangs out over the sweater so that the charm is exposed. The next thing is putting on the backpack. If you are not able to do your own hair like Kanye West, put on your hat, and make sure it is tilted to the front-right or the front-left, whichever is more comfortable. Do not wear it to the back or to the side. Lastly, put on your white shutter shades. If you chose to use a microphone, you are only going to hold on to it.

Now you have a complete Kanye West costume for Halloween. After you get all dressed up, ask people who you are, and if they know anything about hip-hop or popular music of today, they should know exactly who you are dressed up as. If you followed this tutorial correctly, people should know without even asking you. But in the act that a person does not know who you are dressed up as, that knows who Kanye West is, recite one of his popular lines like, "Throw your diamond in the sky if you feel the vibe!" from the hit song "Diamonds Are Forever" And they will know immediately that you are Kanye West.
