Make Your Own Leather Book Cover

I love covering books in leather book covers. If you have an old book or a special bible, then this simple and easy no sew leather book cover will protect it for years!

This simple leather book cover also looks fabulous! You can make stacks of leather covered books and really create a rich look in your home. By the way, this leather book cover is perfect for paper back books and hard cover books.

To Make Leather Book covers You Will Need:

Scrap leather or old leather jackets

Waxy twine or gross grain ribbon

Whole punch or metal skewer

Scissors

Tape Measure

Old Book

Now, go ahead and measure how wide and tall you book is.

Open the book up flat. You will need one piece of old leather that is as wide and tall as the whole outside edges of the book. Be sure to add one about one two tow inches to this size.

Now, you will need two more piece of leather to finish your leather book cover. These need to be the same eight as the last piece you cut, but only about half to 2/3's as wide as the cover of the book.

Now, the real fun with this unique leather book case comes in the details.

Lay each of the larger piece of old leather good side down on your table. Now, lay the two small piece of lather on top, bad side down. Line the outer edges up.

Now, use a metal skewer, metal needle, or sturdy hole punch (like a grommet hole maker) to make a series of holes along the outer edges.

Be sure these holes line up on both pieces of fabric.

Now, once all you holes are poked you will need four pieces of twine or ribbon.

Start from the top holes and intertwine your ribbon through the holes to adhere the flaps.

You want four piece of twine, each one starting on the top or bottom hole and all four ending on e the sides right in the middle.

This will leave you with four strings that hang out from the middle of the flaps, which are absolutely perfect for tie in your leather cover book shut!

So, slip your book into the leather book cover and then use those ribbons to tie the book shut.

You can take the two ribbons on each side and tie them in a knot to hold them in place

This is also an opportunity to add a bead or two if you want.

Tie the knot on the right flap. Slip on a bead or two and then tie another knot.

You can also tie a knot on the ends of the ribbon, add a bead, and tie another knot for one more cool detail on this leather book cover.
