Make Your Own 'The Lost Boys' Vampire Costumes

Released in 1987, "The Lost Boys" has developed a cult-like following and is known as one of the most iconic and stylish movies of that decade. It's the story of two brothers, who along with their mother, move to a coastal town known as "the murder capital of the world." While hanging out in the boardwalk area, the brothers meet a group of vampires led by Kiefer Sutherland and the struggle between good and evil begins. Here are some ideas for costumes based on the vampiric characters from "The Lost Boys" that you can put together yourself for Halloween or a fun costume party.

This would especially be a fun idea for a group of friends looking to dress in a similar theme. The vampires in this film were edgy: they rode motorcycles and didn't seem to care too much about personal hygiene. No matter which vampire you choose to dress as, make sure your skin has a pale look to it. This can be achieved by wearing foundation make-up that is a few shades lighter than your own skin. Wearing white costume make-up won't look as authentic. Add the appearance dark circles to your eyes with purple costume make-up. When feeding, the vampires' eyes glowed red. Some Halloween supply stores carry red contact lenses and realistic looking fangs that mold around the shape of your own teeth.

Kiefer's character, David, had short spiked light blond hair and wore a slight beard and mustache. You can get David's spiked look by spraying hair with hair spray or spray wax and combing it upward on the top but slicked back on the sides and back. He also wore a long black duster, which is essential to the look. Wear a dark t-shirt, black jeans, black boots, and finish off the costume with one dangling earring.

If you're dressing up like one of the other male vampires, look for black military styled coats, biker boots, gloves, chunky metal wrist cuffs, and of course, the dangling eighties earring. One of the vampires even sported a dark ringmaster's styled jacket, slim white pants, and dark boots. Make sure you have big eighties-styled hair.

Jami Gertz played Star, David's girlfriend, a not-fully-turned vampire who spent lots of time with the bike-riding group. Star had long, curly brown hair and a bohemian style. Find a long, strapless white linen or cotton dress and accessorize with multi-colored scarves. Keep your make-up simple and natural-looking.
