Make Your Own Natural Hair Oil and Body Butter

If you have dry hair, then you probably know that most hair products on the market for dry hair are very expensive. The good news is that there are a few natural homemade products that you can create to remedy this problem and work on fixing your dry hair yourself. Natural products are just that - made from only a few wholesome ingredients and little else. They are not designed to last forever so they are not packed with preservatives and other chemicals. Here are two natural hair moisturizers that you can make at home.

If you have read my other articles on the topic of making your own body oils and products, you are a few steps ahead. If not, let me give you the basics. In making natural body and beauty products, oils mix with oils, and water based products mix with water based products. Like mixes with like. Luckily, when you want to make a natural product for dry skin and hair, you want them to be oil or fat based, so these formulas are as basic as it can get. This is because essential oils are just that, oils.

Make Your Own Natural Hair Oil

Choose a thin or light oil as your base. If you have a natural grocer in your neighborhood, check their beauty aisle. You can probably find jojoba oil, which is great for your hair and scalp. I also use vitamin E oil. Put a new label on the bottle so no one uses the oil for food purposes. Add a few drops of essential oil to the bottle. Lavender is my standard for homemade natural beauty products, but anything goes. Essential oils are also available at natural food stores. Shake it up, and you are good to go. This oil is great for hair and skin, especially cuticles. Rub a little bit between your hands and apply it lightly to dry hair ends. Do not use it close to the scalp for day since it will make your hair look oily. For a scalp treatment, rub a little bit of the oil into your scalp before bed.

Make Your Own Natural Hair Cream/ Body Butter

A thicker hair cream can be made using shea butter (my favorite) or coconut, palm, or mango butter. These thick fats are solid at room temperature. You can usually melt them in a microwave (I have not microwaved all of them yet, so experiment!) or if not over a low heat. Shea is microwaveable. Be careful not to burn yourself. Before your product sets, stir in some essential oil and pour it into your container. Let it cool before putting the lid on. This natural body butter is great for hair (apply the same way as the oil), and dry skin. It will make your skin beautiful and shiny.

These are just two recipes for homemade beauty and body products. I hope you enjoy them!
