Make Your Own Paper Bag Penguin

For Winter and Holidays

With all the snow that the country has been getting this year many kids are out of school more than expected. During these snow days, it can be difficult to find things for the kids to do that will not break the bank. Well this project that kids of all ages can enjoy and it will not empty the pocket book. Follow the material list and directions below and make your own little 'Happy Feet'.

Paper bag Penguins:

Materials:

Paper Lunch Bag
Construction paper in Black, White and Orange
Newspaper
Stapler
Craft Glue
Scissors

Optional:

If your lunch bag is white or brown and not black you will need some black tempera paint.

Time line:

This project should take about 30minutes to an hour.

How to do it:

If your paper bag is white or brown take your black tempera paint and cover your paper bag. Than set it aside to dry.

While your bag is drying, take your piece of white construction paper and draw an oval design on it. Once the oval is drawn, cut it out.

Now take your newspaper ball the pieces into tight compact balls.

Take your white oval construction paper and glue it to where your penguin's tummy would be.

Once the glue is dry and the white paper secure open your bag the open part of the bag is going to be your penguins "waddle side" or the bottom.

Now take the balled up newspaper balls and fill them into the bag tuck them, stuff them into the corners, and give your penguin a nice fat look. If you can get it rounded some that is a bonus, but your bag penguin will look just as cute if he's square. Once it is full staple, the bag closed.

Using your black construction paper cut out a black circle that is smaller than your white oval. Glue it above the white Tummy; this is your penguins head.

Using your orange construction paper cut out a triangle for the beak, circles for the eyes and two triangles for the feet. Attach your feet over the stapled area. Put the beak in the right place and the eyes as well. Once the glue dries, you have the perfect winter day penguin.

You can size down the bags and make an array of sizes for your little penguins. Anyone who has affection for penguins can make these little fellows and put on your own Happy Feet production. I know my little cousin loves his paper bag penguin and even named him mumbles.
