Make Your Own Paper Piecing for Your Scrapbook

It Won't Cost You a Penny!

V. L. Hamlin
Do you ever sit looking at someone else's scrapbook, each page filled with another beautiful paper piecing and sit wishing yours could look like that too? Adorable three dimensional bats and ghosts for Halloween, a jolly Santa with his elves for Christmas, it is all possible if you follow the directions I have given here and it will take you less than ten minutes to complete your own!

Since, we are nearing Halloween, I have chosen to make a three dimensional bat for this example.

Step # 1 ~ Finding Your Character

Take a few minutes and search the Internet for FREE HALLOWEEN COLORING PAGES and find one you like.

Step # 2 ~ Sizing

After you have found a bat coloring page that you like, copy it and paste it into any photo editing program. Resize it to slightly larger than the size you would like your final paper piecing to be.

Step # 3 ~ Printing

Then flip it over (so it prints like a t-shirt transfer) and print on the back of colored paper.

Step # 4 ~ Cut It Out

Now that you have your graphic printed, cut it out around the black lines. Start with the outside lines and then work your way to the inside. Make sure to cut out all of the black lines. Be sure to remember the way the pieces go back together.

Step # 5 ~ Put it back together

Starting with the inside first, carefully glue the edges and paste the pieces back together. Remember to paste from the inside to the outside and always put the glue and the back side of the pieces!

That's it! You have just made your first paper piecing. After it dries, feel free to decorate it with markers, chalks and embellishments so it looks more realistic.

You can use this technique over and over again to create thousands of different paper piecing embellishments for your scrapbooking. Take just a few minutes and search the internet, you will find thousands of free coloring pages your can use as templates, from Easter, Halloween and Christmas to Birthday's and Everyday cartoons. Just remember, most of them are copyrighted, so be sure to only use them in your personal scrapbooks or gift giving, do not try to resell them. But, most of all, have fun and make sure to use pop dots to give them even more dimension on each page!
