Crafting stained glass windows used to be a huge project where lead was used to outline the stained sections, and the entire process was tedious and time-consuming. Not anymore! Thanks to the newest concepts in stained glass, anyone can create the beautiful designs, and believe it or not, it's not hard at all!
You'll find a large selection of stained glass paints at a craft store, and these paints work great on most any type of glass. Make the shades light or very dark, simply by applying more or less coats of paint. The paints are created not to drip, making it easy to create designs on an upright window or piece of glass.
Forget the lead outlines for your stained glass designs. They're bothersome and expensive. Instead, use paint markers! The markers are available in gold, silver and other metalic shades that will resemble ordinary stained glass outlines. Stencils will help you create luscious designs for your glass.
The design itself is all yours. Use stencils and paint marker to create a huge oval, with a scene inside, or just use the paint markers to create geometric sections which you'll later color in with stained glass paints.
Typical stained glass creations are okay but yours can be much more modern and elegant. For example, create a snowy mountain scene by outlining fir tree shapes with gold marker, then coloring the trees in with green and white glass paints. Or, create a lighthouse image, then color it in with an assortment of glass paint colors. There are no limits to the designs you can create.
The stained glass paints are great for any type of glass. Vases, picture frames, windows, simple panes of glass - all can become works of art with the stained glass paints. Paint on an ordinary piece of clear glass, then use metallic tape to cover the rough edges, around the perimeter.
Instead of paint markers you can also use metallic tape to create outlines of all sorts. The tape is easy to dispense, comes in a variety of widths, and creates a metallic appearance to the outlines of your designs.
Whatever interests you, from pets to beach scenes to mountain views, can all be done using stencils, paint markers and glass paints. Just dream up the design, or choose from hundreds of stencils, and create the desired effect on any piece of glass.
There are different types of stained glass paints so talk to a representative at a craft store for the type of paints you need. Some types require a painting process, then a second process, to create a crackle or other effect. You'll decide on the type you need with help from a knowledgeable store associate. Or, go online to learn more about glass paints, and purchase the paints from a reputable web site.
You'll have lots of fun creating stained glass windows in your home, stained glass picture frames for your walls, and even stained glass vases for your tables. The glass projects make fabulous gifts or decor pieces for your own home.

Post a CommentThis sounds like such an easy way to get started in stained glass. I have a long, thin window in my front door that I want covered and have been looking for something; I think the ideas you've presented here have helped me reach a decision. Thank you.
I love stained glass. Actually have a lamp shade kit down in the basement from when my son thought he wanted to try the craft. I ought to get it out and see what I need for supplies to do it.
