Cookie Candle Holders
Shape some cookie dough into star-shaped cookies and use them for candleholder centerpieces. Here's how.
First, you will need to make some shortbread cookies. Gather these ingredients:
2 cups butter, room temperature
1 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
4 ¼ cup all purpose flour
In a mixing bowl, cream together the brown sugar and butter. Add the flour and mix in thoroughly.
Make some icing now. For this, you will need:
2 cups icing sugar
1 egg white
¼ tsp. cream of tartar
1 ½ tsp. warm water
Food coloring
In a mixing bowl, combine the icing sugar, egg white, cream of tartar and water. Beat for 10 minutes. Make sure the icing is stiff. If it's too stiff, add some water. If you want red or green icing, add food coloring one drop at a time until the color is what you want.
You can also add sprinkled or other cookie decorations.
For making the cookies, gather some utensils. These include waxed paper, a rolling pin, star-shaped cookie cutters, a knife, baking sheet lined with aluminum foil, a lifter, cooling rack, and tapered candles.
Now you are ready to begin making the cookies. Preheat your oven to 300 degrees. Get your shortbread cookie dough and place it on a piece of waxed paper and roll it out until it is about ¼ inch thick.
Use your cookie cutters to cut out six stars for each candleholder. Use the knife to cut out a circle a little bigger than the diameter of your candles in the middle of each star.
Now, move the stars to the baking sheet and sprinkle on your decorations. Bake the cookies for 15-17 minutes and then remove from the oven. Cool the cookies for 2 minutes on the baking sheet. Transfer the stars to the cooling rack with the lifter and allow the cookies to cool completely.
Once the cookies have cooled, stack 6 on top of each other with the holes lined up and the tips of the stars are not lined up. Put the candles in each candleholder. Repeat for each candle.
These are so easy to make and very decorative for your holiday table. Decorate your candles with decorative icing and sprinkles. Use these as a centerpiece and you will be surprised at the joy they will bring.
