Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Halloween Costumes for Couples

Jennifer Eblin
This year, do you really want to make an impression with your Halloween costume? Maybe you have a significant other that refuses to dress up in a couples costume, thinking it will be lame and pathetic. This year take a little inspiration from Hollywood and go as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Let's start with the Tom Cruise costume since he's the more famous half of this couple. Dark hair is key, but since Tom keeps changing his look, the style doesn't really matter. You'll need a long sleeved button up shirt, jeans or dark pants and you can top it off with a blazer if you really want. Just make sure you tuck the shirt into the pants and keep a smile on your face all night.

Katie Holmes is a little more complicated since she's quickly turning into a fashionista. The short do isn't necessarily important since Katie's rocked the long hair at times, but it absolutely must be dark. Don a wig for the night or grab a bottle of temporary dye.

For Katie's clothing you have to remember that this actress is all about the high class and expensive clothes. The little black dress with a pair of black flats is an easy choice, but you can also copy her latest working actress look. Grab a pair of men's jeans and roll up the bottoms just like you did in junior high. Top it off with a black tee-shirt and a trench coat or oversized cardigan. Don't forget the black flats! You want everyone to know you're a serious artist.

The real trick to pulling off a TomKat costume is that the female absolutely has to be taller than the male. Look at any pictures of the celebrities and you'll find that Katie towers over Tom. If you have a friend significantly taller/shorter than you, you're all set. Otherwise you need to improvise. One option is to wear the highest pair of heels you can find, even slip on a pair of five inch wedges if you're worried about comfort.

Your other option is to carry around a box or crate all night long and frequently have the male half of your costume stand on it to give the impression that he's taller. Bonus points if he starts lecturing on anti-depressants while standing on his soap box.

Accessories wise you can't forget the shades, even if your Halloween parties start in the middle of the night. Tom's seldom seen without his trusty aviator shades while Katie goes for ones almost larger than her face. Look for the biggest sunglasses you can find.

A TomKat costume wouldn't be complete without a little Suri in the mix. Grab a doll with dark hair and frequently pass it back and forth all night so everyone gets a chance to see your little bundle of joy. Make frequent comments about her real father and then cover up your slip by pointing to "Tom" with a smile. Tom can have a little fun in his costume too. Wait for a moment when the couch is empty and immediately start jumping up and down while pointing to Katie and screaming, "I love that girl". Your friends may laugh or they may call in the guys in the little white coats.

Of course you can't forget your best accessory of the night: the biggest smile you can find. Trust me, if you walk into a party and keep smiling like a loon, people will know who you're supposed to be.
