Make a Personalized Easter Egg Basket from a Gallon Bucket

Lyn McCallister
Easter baskets are a fun tradition for many families. You can make these unique personalized Easter egg baskets as a surprise for your children. Another idea is to have your child help you make a surprise Easter egg basket from a gallon bucket for a teacher, friend, or dad!

Supplies Needed:

Clear, clean gallon bucket

Easter themed scrapbook paper

Easter themed stickers

Clear glue

Scissors

Sharpie

I found all these supplies at a local craft store. Each Easter bucket costs about $7 to $8 total to make, assuming the paper, stickers, and glue can be shared for multiple buckets. The blank buckets cost about $5 each. You can purchase blank quart buckets for smaller children.

Tip: You can use your Easter themed gallon bucket to contain Easter morning surprises for your children. Then, empty the bucket and use it to collect Easter eggs. Once Easter weekend is over, use the bucket to store art supplies.

Step-by-Step Instructions to Make a Personalized Easter Basket from a Gallon Bucket

1. Purchase your supplies from a local craft store. Keep in mind if you are making an Easter basket bucket for a boy or girl and choose appropriately themed paper.

2. Use a solid colored paper for the background. In my example, I chose a soft blue cardstock.

3. Decide how much of the clear bucket you want to show. I chose to let about half the bucket remain clear so that my child could see colorful eggs on Easter.

4. Cut the background paper using a wave pattern. You can cut this free form or draw the shaped edge with a pencil first. One 12x12 piece of background paper is enough to cover a 1 gallon bucket about half way from the bottom. You will need to cut 2 pieces to cover the entire bottom portion of the container. The pieces will need to overlap slightly for full coverage.

5. Cut 2 bottom borders from the Easter themed paper. Make sure these accent pieces are the same length as the background paper.

6. Glue each Easter border to the bottom of each background piece of paper.

7. Glue the completed bottom unit to the OUTSIDE of the blank gallon bucket. If you glue it to the inside, the paper will get crumpled! Use clear drying glue so you cannot see it once completely dried from the opposite side.

8. Cut 2 top borders from the Easter themed paper. These pieces will need to overlap slightly for full coverage.

9. Glue each Easter top border to the top OUTSIDE of the gallon bucket.

10. Add Easter themed stickers randomly to the sides and top of the bucket. Choose stickers to complement your paper.

11. Use the sharpie to write your child's name and year on the top of your new Easter basket bucket!

12. Add goodies for an Easter morning surprise!

Caution: Please do not use artificial Easter grass if you have pets or very young children as it poses a choking hazard. You don't want to have a vet or ER visit on Easter weekend!

More Creative Ideas for Easter Basket Buckets

1. Have your child make a personalized Easter basket bucket as a surprise for grandparents. Fill the bucket with photos, drawings, and an invitation to come Easter egg hunting.

2. Turn this project into a fun classroom activity. You can use a spring theme instead of an Easter theme.

3. Make this project for a child celebrating a birthday on or near Easter. Fill it with bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and crayons.

Great idea, Lyn. You could also save money by recycling empty plastic gallon ice cream buckets, or similar such containers, at no added extra cost, too! (^;^)
