Make A Plan to Avoid Procrastination

I'm sure you've heard about procrastination. Everyone has done it before. However, we need to understand that it can hurt us and it is something dangerous.

The thing to realize with procrastination is that it is a type of self-deception. You think that "you'll get it to it later." But fact is, you have no control over what will happen tomorrow. Tomorrow is like this box wrapped with aluminum foil. You'd like to think you have good stuff in it, but you don't know.

The point is that you need to utilize NOW to work towards your goal. Let me use the example of studying for an exam in 2 weeks. I know I need to prepare, but it's hard to start. For some reason, distractions have a way of eating time. This is where you need to be strong-willed.

Did you ever notice how after you talk to someone for an hour, you'll spend perhaps 15 minutes afterwards thinking of it? Time is more like water than butter. You can cut butter up into nice clean pieces, but time doesn't work like that. Because the fact is, once you start something it's not just the time it takes, but the time it takes away from you.

Back to the exam - say a week was wasted. Then for I have to read 5 chapters in a week. I say "I'll read one a day" Well, the first day I start reading and find it's difficult reading, and end up reading a smidgen.

Going to school the next day I get a flat. I spend an hour putting the spare on. When I get to school late I have to rush to class, barely on time. Afterwards, a friend accosts me and keeps me hostage for 20 minutes. When I get home at night, I'm just exhausted. I get a few pages done before sleep seduces.

The days slip, and somehow I'm left with just 48 hours and three chapters left. Panic and worry attacks. I get another assignment today, which isn't due for a while but causes some anxiety.

Exam day comes in, and I walk into the exam having just pulled an all-nighter. The sleep deprivation hurts.

So to avoid this scenario you need to make a plan. Remember that the only time you really own is now. Decide to make your priorities and your actions connected.
