WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
1 Poster (print and size of your choice)
1 Frame (Must be glass covered and not plastic)
Glass Cutters
Decoupage Glue
1 Sponge Brush
4 Tubes of Super Glue (depending on the size of your poster and frame)
1 Small Box Of Grout (I find that black grout works best as it makes your art pop)
Grout Float
Bucket/Old Large Bowl
Safety Gloves
Safety Glasses
Scissors
Pencil
Straight Edge
Step 1:
Assemble your poster in the frame, but with out the glass pane insert. Next take your pencil and trace along the inside of your decorative frame molding, leaving your poster only at the same width of the frame opening. Cut the poster along your pencil marks, and put aside.
Step 2:
Take the back of your frame laying it so the hanging hardware is to your work surface. Next take your sponge brush and give it a nice thick coat of decoupage glue. You do not have to be to careful with this glue as it dries clear. Now take your poster and center it in the middle of the frame backing, smooth it down making sure to release all air pockets. Using the same sponge brush go rite over the top of the poster with a coat of decoupage glue. This will assure a good adhering. Put aside and let dry for 2 hours.
Step 3:
While your art is drying its time to put on your safety gloves and glasses. Take your glass pane insert and straight edge and go in with your glass cutters and cut your glass into 1/4 inch squares. This is very time consuming. Be patient and gentle as the glass will sometimes shatter. If you find yourself getting frustrated put it down and come back to it later when you have cooled off.
Step 4:
Now that your art is dry and your tiles have been cut, its time to lay them down. The pattern of the tile is entirely up to you. While laying them down do not go over the edges of your poster. This is very important. Lay out your tile pattern first before gluing them down, being sure to keep them close together with out touching. Just enough room to fit grout in. If you like the pattern you have layed out, take your super glue and pick up each individual tile and dab a little on and lay it back down. When done set aside and let dry, approximately 3 hours.
Step 5:
Time to grout. Mix your grout to manufacturers directions in an old bucket or bowl. You do not need alot for this project. Put your safety gloves on and take your float and gently apply your grout making sure to get evenly into every space between the glass tiles with out going over your poster edge. When done let the grout set, then go in with a damp sponge and gently wipe away the extra. Being gentle is the key, you do not want to pull the tile up, as this will result in ripping your poster.
Step 6:
When all is dry and wiped clean assemble the frame as you normally would and hang. Now you have a great piece of art!
