Make-up Review: Bare Minerals Vs. Everyday Minerals
I first became interested in mineral make-up several years when I began seeing ads for Bare Minerals. Most mineral make-ups market themselves as a more natural make-up since they don't contain a lot of the chemicals found in other make-ups that can irritate sensitive skin or cause break-outs. Another advantage of mineral make-up is that it's a natural SPF 15 - so if your skin is irritated by sunblock (plain old sunblock, or the sunblocks in other types of make-up) mineral make-up may be the way to go.
The first mineral make-up I tried was Bare Minerals - which was awarded a Glammy in 2006 by Glamour Magazine. I have sensitive skin and I was impressed by how gentle Bare Minerals was. It gave me optimal coverage with a natural looking finish, without being cakey or making me look like I'd applied my make-up with a mortar and pestle. Being made of only 5 natural ingredients (Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Mica, Iron Oxide and Bismuth Oxychloride) Bare Minerals did not clog my pores or irritate my skin. In spite of the price (which is a little high... okay a lot high) I thought Bare Minerals was a pretty good product. However, after several weeks of use, I found that while I was wearing the make-up - which BearMinerals.com claims is pure enough to sleep in - it started to make my skin itch. After I stopped using it, the itching went away. I spoke with several other Bare Minerals users and found that they had had similar experiences. I was a little upset about having to stop using it, both because Bare Minerals looks so good and also because it was rather expensive!
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine introduced me to Everyday Minerals. I wasn't sure I wanted to pay an arm and leg for another mineral make-up that would just end-up making me itchy or irritating my skin, but I checked out the website anyway (www.EverydayMinerals.com). I was surprised to find that Everyday Minerals offers a FREE sample kit (something Bare Minerals certainly does not!) The free kit includes: 3 foundations; 1 blush; and 1 concealer! Even better, you get to choose the shades from a much wider variety than Bare Minerals has to offer. The customer is responsible for paying the shipping fees, which is less than $5.00, but $5.00 for mineral make-up didn't seem like such a bad deal - so I placed an order. A few days later my samples arrived. The samples are small, but enough for multiple applications. You don't have to use a whole of mineral make-up to make an impact. The samples also do not come with the sifter tops that mineral make-up users are accustomed to, so you have to be careful when applying the make-up.
I used Everyday Minerals for several weeks without experiencing any of the negative effects (itching) that I did with Bare Minerals. For me, the make-up looked just as natural as Bare Minerals and was just as easy to blend. As I mentioned before, Everyday Minerals is available in a wider range of colors than Bare Minerals, so I decided to go back to the website and order the full-size make-up. I was pleased to find that Everyday Minerals' prices are about HALF the price of Bare Minerals!
With more colors to chose from, less skin irritation and at HALF the price, this one is a no brainer. Everyday Minerals offers much more bang for your buck than Bare Minerals. Still not sure you want to try it? Try the free samples, you won't be sorry!

Post a CommentIt's the bismuth oxychloride that causes the itching. It's a by-product of lead mining, so it probably qualifies as a cheap filler ingredient. The best mineral make-ups don't contain it. Two other good products: Elegant Minerals (not quite the same staying power as Everyday Minerals, but with a nice finish and a huge variety of products) and Sheer Miracle (which, last time I checked, only offered one finishing powder) are also good choices--less expensive than Bare Minerals and bismuth oxychloride-free. So I stick with Everyday Minerals.
I have tried Everyday Minerals and agree its a good product, but it is NOT half the price of Bare Minerals. For $12 you get 5.5 g of Everyday Minerals. For $25 you get 9 g of Bare Minerals. Basically, Everyday seems cheaper because their products are packaged in small quantities. There is some savings there but it is no where near half the price, more like 15%.
You should try Mary Kay's Mineral powder foundation. It works great, and you can get the coverage you need in a color that is perfect for your skin tone. It's only $18 and will last a long time! I tried sheer cover once and it irritated my skin and caused me to break out.
Also, it's important to know that your skin care(face wash, moisturizer) and foundation should be from the same company b/c those products are made to work together...mabyline isn't working with Loreal to make sure their ingredients work together, etc, etc...and no one wants their face to be a chemistry experiment!

I got to say that Everyday Minerals is the best! I've tried Bare Minerals, Sheer Cover and other mineral make- ups. But they were nothing compared to Everyday Minerals! Perfect Coverage, Affordable and it didnt cause my skin to break out! I am in loooove with Everyday minerals! Good service too. I would totally recommend this mineral make up!!
Your Skin got itchy because you need to wash your brushes frequently! Once a week- you should wash your brushes- otherwise they get bacteria and they make your face itch, and break out etc....
I have just started using Everyday Minerals, and love the product. I love the selection and I loved that I could order samples to get my color(s) perfected. The sample sizes have sifter tops now too! What really impressed me was that they used newspaper to stuff the mailer, so I was even able to recycle their packaging. Awesome.
I've been using Everyday Minerals for about 3 years now and will continue to do so for as long as they continue to do what they're doing. I am Asian and as we all know, we're yellow. It's been tough finding the right shades of foundation for my skin color which is fair and yellow, but Everyday Minerals nailed it down for me and I've been using Light Winged Butter in Intensive for about 2 years now. I love the coverage of their Intensive formulas! Customer Service is beyond excellent. Everyday Minerals has come along way since their first start and I am so so so happy that I could say I've been with them for over 3 years. Their products are excellent, their prices are wonderful on my wallet, I will always be devoted customer! I'm so pleased with them I am going to get my sisters and friends to convert!
