RIBBON: Get some wide Christmas ribbon. It should be about 2 inches wide up to 3 inches wide for best results. It should also have wired edges for easier management while you are hanging it. You can purchase Christmas wired ribbon at all craft stores and some retail stores. You could get solid colored ribbon or ribbon with a Christmas design on it. You could even get two Christmas colored ribbons to alternate the use of. Be creative and think outside of the box.
TAPE: Get some wide clear packaging tape that will hold well. It should be at least 2 inches wide to hold well. You can buy this at the post office or most retail stores. You may even be able to find wide clear tape that will work better than packaging tape at a craft store, simply ask a store associate for assistance.
DESIGN: Cut one piece of ribbon that is about 4 to 5 feet long. Use your own preference and make it as long as you want it. This will be the center of your tree. Tape the piece of ribbon in place about 1 to 2 feet below the very top of your front door, centered. You may have to use a couple pieces of tape to hold it. Keep the ribbon straight against the door all the way down and tape the piece of ribbon again at the bottom. Once you have the center of your Christmas ribbon tree in place you can start on the branches.
To make the branches, you will want to start at the top. For the top branches cut two small pieces of ribbon about 6 inches to 1 foot long. Tape one end of the ribbon pieces right at the top meeting the top of your center ribbon. Then twist the pieces of ribbon a few times, until it looks good to you. Once you have it twisted as much as like, probably 3 to 4 times, swoop the piece of ribbon out toward the edge of the door and tape it. Make it swoop down and slightly back up to look like the branches of a Christmas tree. For the next set of branches, move down on the center piece of ribbon about 8 inches and place two more pieces of ribbon twisted on each side of the center ribbon. These pieces of ribbon will be cut a little longer, about 1 foot to 1 1/2 feet long. Repeat these steps to make branches all the way down your tree. Once you have finished, your ribbons should look like a Christmas tree. With the top branches being shorter than the bottom braches each step of the way.
