I will tell you a little story on how we made this process work for us. My husband and I had a beautiful wooden waterbed that had several scratches on the head board. We had planned on getting rid of this bed but I really didn't want to give it away. I had plans on getting enough of my money back to buy a new bead and mattress set. Looking at the head board and all those scratches I knew that it would be hard to price it too high. I asked a few people what they thought I should price it for and got some very good advice on removing the scratches and making it like new again.
First, I had to buy instant coffee (some household may already have this in there cupboards). Then you make a mixture with the instant coffee and water. The mixture needs to have the consistency of paste. If your mixture has the appearance of tooth paste than your mixture is ready to use. Pick up some of the mixture with a soft towel and gently rub the scratched area. Carefully rub the mixture over the scratches in small circular motions. Repeat if necessary. Apply the coffee mixture to all of your furniture with scratches.
This procedure works great with very dark stained wood but it also looks good done on light colored wood since the coffee mixture will blend in with the wood grain look. This is how this technique works; the coffee mixture stains the scratches and gives your furniture a scratch free appearance.
This is how it worked for me and my headboard. My bed was looking new again and we got back almost ninety-percent of our money back. The scratches were covered so well that the people buying it thought it was never use. Since then I will never sell anything wood without touching it up. All of my furniture is inspected every cleaning day. If a scratch appears the coffee mixture comes out immediately.
I hope this works just as well for you as it does for us. Just be careful not to make your mixture to watery. This will just cause a mess and will not work as well for you.
