Make Sense Out of Chocolate Tasting

There is an Art to Chocolate Tasting

Rachel Heller
Most people love eating chocolate. I love chocolate. My favorite ice cream flavor is chocolate mint chip ice cream. I also love chocolate with nuts in it. In addition, one of my favorite movies is "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." I would love to dream in chocolate. Chocolate is fun, creamy, and dreamy. In fact, it seems as if many chocolate lovers need their " chocolate fix" daily. If this is true then, chocolate lovers would enjoy participating in a chocolate tasting. Chocolate is yummy and rich; however, it is important to understand that there is an art to chocolate tasting. But, also remember chocolate tasting is fun. People don't have to be chocolate experts to appreciate the subtleties of fine chocolate. Fine chocolate is like fine wine because it is best experienced using all five of your senses. The five senses of chocolate tasting involve hearing, seeing, tasting. touching, and smelling.

Seeing Chocolate
People need to examine the chocolate's color. I am a fan of milk chocolate. I has a nice brown color. Fine chocolate has a silky-matte sheen and an even texture.

Touching Chocolate
Chocolate lovers will enjoy feeling the silky and smooth surface of chocolate. Feeling chocolate is a sensual experience. In addition, fine chocolate isn't rough or grainy.

Hearing Chocolate
People hearing chocolate might sound strange. however, hearing chocolate is an essential ingredient to chocolate tasting. When hearing chocolate it is important to hear a crisp and loud snap when breaking the bar. A distinct snap and clean break are a sign of fine chocolate.

Smelling Chocolate
I love walking into a chocolate shop and breathing in the sweet smell of chocolate. In fact, it is the smell of chocolate that draws me into a chocolate shop. I have often smelled raspberries, lemons, apples, and vanilla in chocolate. I have even smelled lavender in chocolate.

Tasting Chocolate
This is my favorite part of the chocolate tasting experience. It is important to allow the square of chocolate to melt on your tongue in order to have the ultimate chocolate fantasy. I love when I get different chocolate samples

Chocolate is my favorite flavor. I think that I am the majority when it comes to liking chocolate. I love chocolate so much that I wish that I could dream in chocolate. If people like chocolate then, they would enjoy a chocolate tasting. Chocolate is yummy; however, like tasting wine, there is an art to chocolate tasting. The art of chocolate tasting involves all of your senses. But, you don't need to be a chocolate connoisseur to enjoy a chocolate tasting. I think that the perfect tasting event would involve both fine wine and fine chocolate. Source: Food and Wine, November, 2010
