Make a Sexy Halter with Crochet

This Homemade Halter Will Look Gorgeous on Any Body Frame

Linda Riggs
This Summer sexy is very in style. It does not matter one bit what size you are. This is the season to proudly show off your beautiful body, curves and all. Halter tops are very flattering on any body type and they are also very easy to make.

The halter tops that girls wore in the sixties and seventies were almost always homemade. A mother would often use her sewing talents to make a halter out of fabric pieces and a bit of thin rope. There were many variations on the homemade halter top.

My favorite of all the different homemade halter top styles was always the crochet tops. It took a bit more time and talent to make one, so not as many girls had them. I never had one, till now. I made the top that is pictured in this article recently and it took me very little time. Here is how you can easily make your own.

Sexy Halter Top / What You Will Need
You will only need four items to make crochet this halter top.
1. Two bolts of yarn in your choice of color.
2. Crochet needle
3. Scissors
4. Beads or Ribbon

The beads and ribbons are completely optional. If you want to keep the style more simple, just skip the beads and ribbons. I did find some great deals on both of these items and you might want to click here before you decide.

Sexy Halter / How To Crochet The Two Top Triangles
There are a few ways you could go about creating your the triangles that cover the breasts with crochet. The easiest way is to start with enough stitches to cover the bottom of your breasts and drop a stitch on one end with every row you crochet. You will want to alternate the ends that you drop the stitch on with each row.

After you have created the triangle shape by drop stitching, you will want to crochet around all three edges of the triangle to give it a finished look. I would suggest that you crochet at least two rows to give it a very smooth look. You may also want to use a separate color to add more flair.

Sexy Halter Top / How To Crochet The Body
The body is the easiest part of this project. You will simply need to decide how much of your body you want showing before you get started. The halter top that I just finished is a modest version. I made the front very long and added side rows for more coverage.

Use a single stitch to get started and make it as long as you want the width to be. Begin double stitching after you finish the first row of loops and crochet till the halter top will be as long as you require for the coverage you want.

When you finish the crochet of the body, you will want to add the breast triangles to the body. To do this, single stitch the bottom of both breast triangles spaced appropriately on to the body of the halter top. You can go over both pieces with a double stitch to be sure they are completely secure if you so choose.

Sexy Halter Top/ Adding A Back Strap
Your halter top is nearly finished and should be looking nice by now. You will want to add either one or two separate straps to the back. If you add one strap, you will simply pull the halter over your head to put it on. If you add two separate straps, you will want to make them long enough to tie.

The width and length is entirely up to you and a matter of coverage as well. The halter top that is pictured in this article has only one strap but that strap is very wide. Crochet as many loops as you need to make the length you need for your choice of strap style. Double stitch to add rows and width to your strap.

Be sure to attach your straps with single and double crochet stitches to be sure they will hold. If you choose to make only one strap, be sure to consider that the crochet will stretch a bit. This is meant to be a very sexy halter top so, make it as daring as you dare.

Sexy Halter Top / Adding Top Straps
How you go about creating your top straps is once again completely a matter of taste. I chose to crochet a flattering shade around both breasts and then add at the top of the triangles to make straps I could tie. You can do the same or, you might want to make one single strap that you can simply pull over your head.

It is easier to make one single strap at the top of each breast triangle on the halter top but, I would highly recommend that you crochet two separate straps. This top will have a lot of give to it and having the option of tightening it up a bit by tying will make it last much longer.

Crochet as many rows as you like to get the width you would like your straps to be. A very easy and cute way to add the straps is to make the rows smaller as they grow in length.

Sexy Halter Top / Final Touches
The little sexy halter top that I just finished was so simple that I decided to finish it with a very delicate bow. You may want to add beads or ribbons to your top to make it unique. I found everything I needed for this project at one store. You can find it all by clicking here.

The less you add to this halter top, the sexier it is. It is a style that will boldly show off all of your curves so, you will not want to take anything away from that by adding too many things to the design. One very cute idea is to add a row of little bells to the bottom edge of the top. You would simply single stitch each bell spaced appropriately.

Whatever you decide to do when you crochet your very own sexy halter top, have fun with it. The wider and more openly spaced your crochet stitches are, the sexier the halter top will be. If you enjoyed this craft article of mine, you can click here to see more of my homemade craft projects.

I don't think there is enough yarn to make one of these big enough for me! LOL

I can't crochet to save my life but this has given me an idea to make a halter-neck using some fabric I like!

Too funny! For those that are a bit modest, a tank top under and a jacket over will make this style easy to wear in a layered look. Love you all! Cheers!

Faye... I was getting ready to ask the same thing. Why does that picture not have a body in it, Linda? lol
