Make Up: How To Shade Your Foundation

TommiH
Have you ever wondered how models skin looks so amazing in pictures? How do they get that healthy glow instead of a washed out color from the flash? Well, today you will learn just that.

1st. You will need to make sure all your hair is away from your face. Proceed by washing your face with whatever cleanser is best for you. Squeeze a walnut size blob of cleanser in your hand, rub around in your palms to warm it up, and apply to your face and neck. Wash with warm water (NOT hot: it will dry your skin out). Feel free to apply cool water to your face afterwards to help tighten any dilated pores.

Tips: Do not use anything harsh on your face or neck: scrubbing pads, harsh cleansers, rough bead cleansers, etc...these are all bad! They will scratch your skin up, irritate your skin, and make your skin red and dry. It's better to avoid problems rather than treat them.

2nd. Make sure your face and neck. Apply a non-greasy moisturizer to your face and neck. Allow the moisturizer to "soak" into your skin for about 4 minutes.

3rd. Now apply your foundation. This color should match your skin tone perfectly.

4th. Look at the picture attached to this article. Find the "lighten" areas. These areas should be highlighted using a foundation one level lighter than your base color (the color that matches your skin tone). Highlighted areas should include: Under your eyes, down the center of your nose, up the bridge of your nose, the middle of your forehead, and on your chin.

Tips: Apply small amounts of your highlighting foundation onto their designated areas and dab (don't rub) onto your skin. It's best to use your ring finger to do this. Apply more foundation as needed but make sure to not overdo it. The key is to keep looking natural.

5th. Look at the picture once again and find all the "darken" areas. Use a foundation one shade darker than your base color. Apply this foundation color to all the "darken" areas just as you did with highlighting. Darkening areas should include: Above your eyes, down along each side of your nose, along your temples, and down the sides of your face and onto partial cheeks (don't get too close to your nose).

Tips: Same as the highlighting. But make sure you are extra careful with the darkening shade because this is where a lot of people make their mistakes. If you make it too dark, it will look very fake.

6th. This is your last step. Top your colors off with a loose foundation powder that matches your natural skin tone. Brush it over your entire face, but lightly. This will make it so your other liquid foundation colors you just applied won't make your skin greasy. Loose powder will give you a matte look, hence making your look more natural.

Make sure to blend your base color into your neck area too. This goes with the powder as well.

This takes some practice, but, as they always say, practice makes perfect.
