After having our children we become very protective and the idea of hiring a babysitter is scary sometimes. Nobody seems worthy of taking care of our kids. We think the worse and in all reality this fear is justified if we watch the news and see all the horrible stuff from the nanny cam videos. After all there is nobody that will love our babies better that us.
But believe it or not, the world is filled with good people. So there is a good chance for us to find a good and caring babysitter that can take care of our treasures for a couple of hours. Just make sure you know who you are hiring and check references.
In my case, I chose a very good friend that I know well to be my babysitter once a week. I trust her and my kids love her. The first time, however, I did feel guilty leaving them to go on a date with my husband. But I have learned that it is a necessary thing to do in order to nourish my marriage.
In our dates we get to hold hands, enjoy a movie sitting by each other in a movie theater without noise or interruptions, we get to be ourselves, making jokes, flirting and just enjoying each others company without any stress. We just get to remember that we are husband and wife, not just mom and dad.
I believe that it is very important to take at least two hours a week to have date night as a couple. Being married doesn't mean that we don't have to work on our relationship. On contrary, there are many life challenges to be deal with as a married couple that can cause stress and problems. That is why it is important to make time to built strong bonds as husband and wife to be able to keep being strong when those challenges come.
Finally, when feeling guilty of going on date with our husbands and leaving our kids for a couple hours a week, lets remember that taking a time out not only helps our marriage but our own happiness and, there is no better mom than a happy one.
