Make-Up Trends for Fall 2009

Amanda Furbeck
Fall is the time when we turn to darker hues for our houses, our clothing, and our hair. Don't forget to update your make-up just a little bit to keep your look fresh and up to the minute.

Always start with a good skin care routine to keep your skin looking it's best: cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize, and tone your skin to keep it healthy and looking great! Remember that the best makeup in the world won't look good if your skin doesn't look good. And make sure you protect your skin with sunscreen everyday.

A foundation primer will help your makeup go on more evenly, will help minimize pores, and keep your makeup on longer. It's a great investment if you have the room in your makeup budget. Follow your primer with your foundation. You may have to adjust the color throughout the winter as summer fans being to fade and paler skin takes over. Powder, mineral foundations are great, but use sparingly on mature skin as it tends to settle in creases and wrinkles. Use a little concealer as needed to hide dark circles, blemishes, and any other marks on the skin.

After the face is all set, the fun can begin! It's time to play with color! Makeup styles are varied this fall from conservative to playful - just remember it's all about you! You want your style and personality to show through no matter what look you choose.

There are lots of great color options to explore in makeup this fall. Deep purple eyes are very pretty on all eye colors. Use more pastel versions for day and deeper, richer hues at night. Try a dark, eggplant eyeliner and black mascara to top it off. For real staying power, dampen your favorite eye shadow and use it with a teeny eyeliner brush to line around your rims. If your eyes are small, just stick to putting liner on your upper lids. Curl your eyelashes to make your eyes look more open and help you look more awake. Fight off the look of allergy eyes by lining inner rims with a nude eye pencil. It works by hiding redness.

The smokey eye is always in season, but make it new again by using more copper and bronze shades instead of dark brown and black. Use lots of black mascara for the most drama, and keep your lips a nude color for balance. A nice juicy gloss works best. Try just a hint of bronzer instead of blush for a trendy, monochromatic look.

If you are drawn to conservative looks but you still want to 'play' there is a great option for you! Use a soft, neutral shadow on your eyes and line your inner rims with a bright, pastel color. You will love the way it wakes up your face. Pair it up with a soft pink blush and a rosy lip color.

Whatever your style or favorite trend, remember to make it yours and enjoy the fun!
