If you are like most people, then you probably have extra cards from holidays past in your home. With Valentine's Day coming up, a great idea is to make new Valentine's Day cards from the old cards that you have. Doesn't that sound like a good idea?

To do this project you will need:

old Valentine's Day cards, or Valentines

blank cards or postcards - ideally in red, pink, ivory or white

nice markers, a calligraphy pen is a great idea, metallic pen is another good idea also.

glitter or glitter pen

scissors

thin ribbon, or ribbon roses

your creativity

When making new cards out of old ones, first look at what the old cards have to offer you. What images or pictures do they have? What words or greetings do they have? What is their style? What do you like about these Valentines that you would like to continue on with in a new card? It may take you a few minutes to decide exactly what you are doing. Just lay the old cards out and hold them over the new cards and get an idea of what designs you would like to do.

Put out some newspaper to protect the surface. Then cut out your Valentines to prepare them to be made into cards. Put these images over the cards in the way that you would like to use them. In some circumstances you will want to glue them down right away, other times you will want to do other things to the cards first, like decorate them, and then put the Valentines on them.

It is fun to use the images from one card and the greeting from another. It can be surprising how well this works, especially if the Valentines are from different manufacturers. But sometimes you can get a really nice match. What can be lovely about these cards is that you truly are creating a one-of-a-kind card that will never be created again. These cards are totally unique.

Use glitter to create accents in the border of the card, or to accent parts of the Valentine. For example if the Valentine has a cupid, you could accent Cupid's bow in glitter. Or you could circle a heart in glitter. Just have fun with it. Other ideas are to use small pieces of ribbon, or ribbon roses to decorate your card.

The people you give these cards to will surely enjoy these cards and they will probably keep these cards for a long time, knowing that you created them especially for them.
