Spend some quality time at home with your child or try one of these fun and easy projects at school in class. Make holders for Valentines in the two projects outlined below. The first project is a little more involved than the second, so may be more appropriate for older children. Both require minimal materials and time.

Make a hanging holder.

For this project you will need two white cardboard paper plates, some thick red or pink yarn, glue, scissors and a sheet of pink or red construction paper. Lay one paper plate on top of the other. Draw a line across the top quarter to third of the plates and cut off that portion. Glue the paper plates together around the edges of the circular part only; leave the straight top open.

Cut a section of yarn about three to four feet in length. Begin with one end at the bottom middle of the circular edge of the plates. Leave about four inches of the end to hang loose underneath the plates. Glue the yarn around one side of the round edge of the plate until the corner, and then leave it loose. Do the same on the other side.

Tie the loose ends hanging from the bottom in a knot. Unwind the threads of the yarn so that it is a fringe. Trim the ends so that they are straight and even. Glue lengths of yarn to the two top straight edges of the plates as well.

Cut various sized heart-shapes from the pink or red construction paper. Glue them to the front and back of the paper plates for decoration and allow it to dry completely, along with the thick yarn glued to the edges. The Valentine holder is now complete, with the plates serving as a pocket and the thread serving as a handle or strap to hang the holder.

Make a paper bag holder.

Get ready for this project by finding a lunch bag, some cardboard, some pink or red construction paper, scissors, a pair of decorative-edge scissors and glue.

Leave the bag folded and flat. Cut off the top edges with the decorative-edge scissors. Trace the shape of the bottom of the bag onto the cardboard. Cut out the shape and glue inside on the bottom of the bag for support and structure.

Cut out heart shapes from the construction paper and glue to the bag for decoration.
