Make Way for Boy-Shorts: Alas, the Thong Has Died

Holly Matheson
Much to the excitement of most of society, the dreaded thong is no longer a fashion statement worth repeating. Recently, the sales of the thong have significantly dipped into numbers that have made it not-so-hot. For most of us this is a reason for a huge sigh of relief. Gone are the days of those pesky wedgies and flashes of the entire world's undergarments. We knew it was bound to happen eventually.

After Britney Spears' stint on the MTV Music Awards back in 2000 with the barely-there pants and rhinestone embellished thong, the lingerie (if you can call it that) soared among shoppers as the hottest new item worth purchasing. Designer jeans began being made specifically to expose the thongs as more and more celebrities and fashion icons were displayed baring their cheeks in the undergarments. This perhaps, was over kill for the thong and the message it was displaying. As jeans became lower and lower, shoppers and designers around the world became a little worn with seeing the undergarments of virtually everyone.

Thankfully, we were later blessed with the technology of underwear that displayed no visible panty lines (NVPL's) and thong sales began to decrease as the oh-so-wonderful boy-short made its introduction in the world. Boy-shorts are now the leading seller among lingerie stores and are highly raved about by both women and men for the way that they accentuate the sexy curves of a woman. www.victoriassecret.com and www.fredericks.com both offer a wide variety of boy-shorts in an extensive collection of designs that will still successfully keep you moving forward with the rest of the fashion world. What makes this underwear even more appealing is that unlike the thong, they're amazingly comfortable. So relax and kick back, there's no longer a need to be digging out a wedgie throughout your day.
