Make Your Wedding Inexpensive - Not Cheap

Tiffanie Perry
So, your getting married, and you are on a tight budget. Well, I have some resources for you.
The first tip I have for you is, get rid of the wedding planner, sorry no way. They cost to much and if you want an inexpensive wedding you have to make sacrifices.

2. The wedding photos. Ok, you want to hire someone to take photos, hire your guest, this is the oldest trick in the book. Give you guest disposable camera, either when the come in the church or at the reception or both. You can get the cameras for little money, but you will have to buy the off-brand ones, if you try to by the name brand ones you will defeat the purpose. The less the camera cost the better, plus you can buy these way ahead, so watch for sales, you will need to figure out in advance how many you think you want. Note: you may be saying that you want professional photos and/or you don't mind spending more money for having a photographer, that is fine, but if you want the photos of you and your new spouse and the wedding party and you just can't go without it. You can do one of two things, either one; you can have a friend take them that is knowledgeable in the ways of digital cameras and Photoshop or you can have the photographer take the pictures but only a few poses of you and your spouse and one pose of the wedding party, everything else let a friend do.

3. The dress. Now this can be a bit tricky, so bear with me. If you sew you can try to make your own dress, I do not recommend trying this unless you are certain you can do this. But if you are certain you can, or you have ample amount of time to screw it up before the wedding. Then you can get patterns and fabric fairly cheap, but be careful of '"fabric shops" as their a bit pricey sometimes, and do not ask the clerk or sales person to help you look for wedding material, they will give you the most expensive thing they have. Try a store that has fabric but it is not their primary inventory. For those of you who do not sew. Try this, buy an inexpensive dress, try to stay away from the "wedding dress" type, you will spend more money, instead go with a white dress that is suitable with what you want. Then go to your local store a fabric store is ok this time, and go to the "patters" section, there you will find some patters to help you add embellishments to your plan inexpensive dress that will help, again make sure you have ample amount of time to screw up and get it fixed. You can also go the library to find crafty books on sewing and embellishing dresses. I also recommend this step for bride's maid's dresses.

4. Flowers. Now flowers depend on what you want. For real flowers you are going to have some money tied up in them, unless you have enough to time to grow your own. This can be done, with enough time and space. But if you really want to save money silks are the way to go. They are very inexpensive. If you are skeptical about arrangements here are two things you can do to make them wonderful. First go the library and get a book on weddings or decorating, or you can get a magazine whatever you want, just fine a photo or photos of what you would like your arrangements to be. Figure out how many you will need, and then pick your flowers out. You can also find a book on arranging silk flowers at the library or book stores. The next time is, buy lots of glue. Hot glue works best, but super glue is fine too. Put drops of hot glue on the flower tips after you have arranged them, this looks like water and it adds a special touch to the flowers. Remember when you are buying your glue to make sure it is clear and not white, if you have white glue the look will not be correct. You can also do the bride's flowers and the bride's maid's flowers like this as well. You can buy the holders at your local fabric store or arts and crafts store.

5. Wedding invitations. Ok here it is. You have to print them yourself. Now calm down, you can do this. If you have a friend or family member that has a good printer that would be great. If this is not an option for you, hand written. Hand written invitations are actually a very good bet, if the person who is writing them has good penmanship. So, get someone you know to do this if you can not. Ok either way you have chosen, the next step is to have two envelopes. Also any added touch, a cut out, a ribbon, anything is great at this point. You can also get little trinkets to add at your local craft shop, and hand deliver your invitations. If you do have people who live out of town, mailed is fine.

6. Wedding rings. This is a tricky one. Silver bands are the most inexpensive way to go. But some may want something a bit better, in that case try online sites like ebay etc. Used rings are always cheaper then new.

7. The reception. Ok, the first thing, think about cutting your guest list, if you have a ton of people at the wedding, have a closed reception. Have the reception at a friend or family member's home. You have already covered flowers for center pieces. Now food, you don't have to serve steak or fish at the reception. Have a buffet, these are great and most people don't mind. You can also, usually get people in your family to leave the wedding early and go home to set things up, and cook, moms and aunts are great for this. Plus you can also save yourself money by say, "hay don't get me anything, just cook for me" if you have two aunt and your spouse has two that is four people cooking and you didn't have to buy a thing. You can usually get your entire reception paid for if you are not picky.

8. Music. Ok, if you have a cousin that has a band or a friend this is the perfect time to cash in that favor they owe you. If not you need to get them to cut you a deal on entertainment. If you can not afford their price, or you don't have a friend in a band and the local bands are to much, then try a DJ, they are great, if a DJ is too much try someone who does Karaoke, usually they are much cheaper and they will play music or sing while everyone is eating. As a last record barrow a large stereo from someone put some CDs in and put it on auto play, and give some kids in the family $5 to keep changing the CDs every hour.

9. Men's wear. RENT, it is that easy. Don't buy rent. Or even better barrow.

10. The Cake. Ok first if you know someone who bakes. You can get the cake pans for a wedding cake almost anywhere. If you don't want to spend the money usual various sized square pans. You can buy the stands at pretty much any store. Bake the cakes like you would any cake and ice it like you would. Buy the pastry tips, and have someone you trust decorate it for you. You can always fine a picture of alone you like but try to keep it as simple as you can. To add flare you can you buy the little accents like fountain etc at any craft store, the cake can bet simple with white acing and nothing else and if you have a little accent it will look great. Also serve cupcakes as well to the guest. That way you cake does not have to big enough for the guest too. Just you and your spouse.

The internet is a great place to find tips trick etc. Just look for ideas and think of ways to do a simple version yourself.

1st bit of incorrect information: a wedding planner can help you save much more money than you know. 2) you have terrible grammar and us the phrase "OK" and "now this is a tricky one" way too much. 3) most of your ideas are not realistic and not the most budget friendly ways to cut costs. i wouldn't recommend this article to be taken seriously.

By the way Tiffany, the mistakes in my comment I just sent you were on purpose...the "You' at the beginning and "embarrising"...it was sarcasem (sarcasim). HE HE

    Tiffany,
You suppose you made a couple of good points in your article, although it was hardly groundbreaking.

However, please do the intelligent public a favor. If you are not able to spell,OR AT LEAST DO SPELLCHECK, then please don't bother to send us any more articles at all!

It's embarrising for you, and it is quite distracting for those who know how to talk and write correct english to read sentences that are supposed to end with a period but has a comma instead, or having to read "barrow" instead of "borrow". Please leave journalism to people who can actually do it well. PLEASE.
