Make wicker paper plate picture hangers with your kids

Pam Parent
With summer approaching, moms are thinking of creative ways to keep their kids busy. These paper plate hangers are a fun, creative and functional craft project to do with kids this summer. This craft project is a great way for kids to display pictures of their friends and fun times they had this summer. Moms and their kids can decorate these paper plate picture hangers in either a boy or girl theme. This craft project is great for kids of all ages. Depending on the ages of your kids, I would recommend supervision if using a hot glue gun for this project. Moms can also use white craft glue for this project.

Paper Plate Picture Hanger

Supplies:

Scissors
Glue gun and glue sticks or craft glue
1 yard of ribbon
Decorations (boy or girl theme)
Floral wire
2 wicker paper plate holders
1 clear vinyl report cover
Ruler
Pictures

Directions:

1. Cover your work area with an old sheet or small tarp.

2. Place the wicker paper plate holders one on top of the other. Weave a piece of floral wire through the center, bottom of one paper plate holder. Weave the other end of the wire through the top, center of the next paper plate holder. Twist ends together. Cut off excess wire. This is the template of the paper plate picture hanger. I made this project with just two plates wired together, but you and the kids can wire as many as three or four together. Another option is to wire four together so that it forms a square. The design you choose will depend on the length want your picture hanger, and how many pictures the kids want to display.

3. Cut a piece from the report cover that measures 5 1/2 inches in height and 7 inches in width. This will be the protective cover for each picture. You will need a vinyl piece for the center of each paper plate that you will be turning into a picture frame.

4. Place a dot of glue on each corner of the vinyl piece. Place this piece on the center of the first paper plate holder. If you are not using a glue gun, let the craft glue dry completely before decorating the plate hanger. Repeat this step for the remaining plate holders.

5. Make three bows from your ribbon. Glue a bow to the top, center and bottom of the picture frame hanger. If this is being made for a boy, you could use rope or jute bows in replacement of the ribbon bows.

6. Glue decorations around the edge of each paper plate holder. For the girls, moms can use flowers, beads or lace for decorations. For the boys, moms can use sports-themed decorations to decorate each paper plate holder. Moms will have fun watching their kids design and create a paper plate picture hanger that matches their personality.

7. Have the kids pick out their favorite summer photos. Slide each picture in from the top of vinyl cover. Hang the picture hanger on their wall.
