Make Your Young Daughter a Dress Up Trunk
Does Your Little Girl like to Play Dress Up? Make Them a Dress Up Trunk!
Making a dress up trunk is fairly easy. You will need:
an old suitcase or a large box
dresses
costume jewelry
scarves
hats
anything else that sounds like it would be fun!
An old suitcase or old box is ideal for a dress up trunk because then you can store it under her bed or in a closet where it will be out of the way. If you don't have an old suitcase, look at a thrift store for an old suitcase, they often have them for sale.
Take the dresses you have and get out your sewing machine. They will need to be hemmed to fit your little girl. Probably hemmed to about half the skirt size, or maybe even shorter. She just wants to wear them to have fun in, not wear them anywhere special. Take the sleeves in if they are long also. Shiny, shimmery fabrics are probably the most fun to play dress up in if you have those. Either that or dresses that have bright colors, or floral patterns.
Costume jewelry is likely to be a big favorite with your little girl when she plays dress up. The safest items are necklaces and bracelets. Rings could be a choking hazard. Pins could poke her when she tries to pin them on. Better to stick with necklaces and bracelets. You can buy great costume jewelry at any dollar store at very low prices (usually just for a dollar). Another great place to look is the thrift shop.
Scarves are a great addition to any dress up trunk. She can tie them around her head or even carry things around the house in them. Try to find scarves of different sizes and colors. You can find scarves at a discount store, ideally after a holiday when they will be very inexpensive. Typically the shiny and shimmery ones will be your little girl's favorite.
Hats are great for any dress up trunk. You can give your little girl hats that you don't wear anymore, as well as hats that you find on sale at a discount store. She will have fun with hats that are meant for adults or even for children. Either one will be fun to play pretend in.
There are other things that you can get that would be fun for a dress up trunk. Angel wings, a feather boa, a magic wand for example. Or perhaps a cape, like little red riding hood wears. There are so many things you can put in her dress up trunk. She will have so much fun playing "pretend".
