Makeover Ideas for a Boring Wall

Anni Sofferet
If you think one wall doesn't make much difference to a room, think again. If a wall is prominent enough, giving that boring wall a makeover can perk up the whole room, and at very little cost or effort. It's like spicing up your face with lipstick. A dash of color goes a long way. So rather than settle for simple accent wall colors, consider these makeover ideas for the boring walls in your home.

Cork Wall Cover

Instead of painting a boring wall in your home or covering it in wallpaper, consider coating it in cork wallpaper. This earthy substance looks a lot like drift wood that has been eaten by worms, except that its color is more vibrantly piney. This burrowed texture is sure to grant your boring wall a unique makeover, with a chic, oriental appeal.

Cloth Wallpaper

Yet another alternative to paint or traditional wallpaper is cloth or linen wallpaper. Unlike cork, cloth may be found in patterns of delicate floral or color blocks. Another great makeover idea for a boring wall if you prefer plain color schemes is embossed linen, which is supremely elegant.

Net Sconces

In place of glass sconces that secured around light bulbs, gauzy, net-like sconces fracture the light exotically and perfect for giving a boring wall a much needed makeover. Rice paper lantern-style sconces also work well to dispel the boring wall curse and instill an oriental, modern appeal.

Mounted Waterfall

Wall mounted waterfalls cascade down blocks of stone, which will become oxidized with minerals in time and change colors beautifully. This boring wall makeover idea soothes the eye as well as the ear, and hence the mind. Of all the ways you can change a boring wall, I think this one is my favorite, despite its also being the most expensive.

Cascading Plants

Hang a cascading line of miniature vases on your fall and fill them with English ivy. You can even make miniature vases from incandescent light bulbs yourself. To maximize the beauty of this makeover idea for your boring wall, hang your cascading focal point opposite the location from which you would like it to be viewed, for example, the sofa on the other side of the room.

Glass Butterflies

Complete the makeover of your once boring wall with a whimsical touch. Look for colorful glass butterflies online. Suspend them on fishing wire from the ceiling all down your cascading plants, then add a few more butterflies above in a hovering cluster.
