Makeup Product Review: Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick

'Airy Fairy' Not so Great

Alexis Valentine
Over the last few months I've kind of gone through a lipstick craze, especially over the color red. I rarely ever buy Rimmel products but I guess the commercials finally got to me because I caved in and decided to try out some of their products, one of which was their lipsticks. Rimmel has several lipstick lines, and I tried two. One of Rimmel's lipstick line that I tried, over the past three months, was Lasting Finish. I bought several colors in this line to try out and compared to other lipsticks, as well as among each other.

I have mixed reviews on Rimmel's Lasting Finish lipsticks. There were some good points to it but some bad qualities as well, depending on the color. From what I've experienced the mauve colors work really well, even some of the reds. But other colors, like 'Airy Fairy,' didn't fair too well. I found that surprising because it's a fairly popular shade that I've read so many good reviews on.

Overall though, what I liked about this Rimmel lipstick line was that there were no strange taste or smell to it, and it comes in a wide variety of colors. The lipstick shades are pretty true to color. I also liked that it's an easy brand to find since it seems to be one of their staples, and it's definitely affordable. I bought most of my Rimmel Lasting Finish lipsticks at Walgreens for around $4 a piece.

Now for the cons. For a lipstick that's named Lasting Finish, it doesn't stay on for very long. It's one of the shortest wear lipstick I've ever tried. I didn't like that some of the colors accentuated the lines in my lips making them appear as though they looked dry and cracked. Some of the colors also slid around my lips, even worse with lip balm, and didn't go on very evenly. It looked disgusting and messy.

Despite it all I did like Rimmel's Lasting Finish lipstick line overall. I wouldn't suggest wearing it on a long date unless you want to reapply several times throughout the day, but for every day wear it's not bad. The colors are a hit or miss though. Some colors work better than others, so I'd suggest finding a place that lets you sample the product. I can't say for sure which colors are bad because everyone's lips are different, but for me 'Airy Fairy' was not a good one.
