Makeup Product Review: Rimmel London's Natural Bronzer + Natural Minerals (027 Sun Dance)

S
If you love buying makeup and trying new looks but hate spending your money on worthless products, you are in the right place. I test hundreds of products each year, review and report the results back to you.

Right now we are going to take a look at Rimmel's Natural Bronzer + Natural Minerals (027 Sun Dance). During this product review we will be looking at packaging, texture, color, coverage, and application life.

NOTE: I have personally tested all makeup products I review.

Packaging: ** (2 stars of 5)

I will start by saying I cannot stand the casing of this bronzer. The bronzer comes in an all-over plastic casing, the bottom is a dark bronze color and the top is clear plastic. This Rimmel bronzer comes in a circular casing and is rather thin, which makes this product very easy to carry around whether be in a back pocket or in a purse of any size. While this case is very attractive to the eye and easy to carry around, the top does not stay onto the base of the product! I have bought a couple of the same bronzer to test out the case, and all fail miserably. There are ridges on the base of the bronzer for the top lid to screw onto, but the base and lid don't lock together, thus causing the lid to be removed and get product everywhere. When it comes to amount of product - you get what it says: 14 g.

Texture: ***** (5 stars of 5)

Okay, so packaging took a hard fall but this bronzer does have a nice texture to it. This is a pressed powder, not loose. The texture has a smooth and silky feel to it. When you first look at the product it looks pretty rough, but it's not. Rimmel's Natural Bronzer has a nice matte look to it once applied to the skin. What I really like about this bronzer - it's a powder bronzer but it does not leave a powder-like residue on your skin.

Color: ***** (5 stars of 5)

I was a bit iffy about the coloring at first, but everything turned out fine in the end. This bronzer looks really dark when you are simply looking at it in the casing; it's a light chocolate brown coloring. When you put this product on a powder brush it looks red. But once applied to the skin it gives you an even coloring of a medium-dark tan. If you take it easy on the amount, it will look completely natural. There is some shimmer to this bronzer, like most others, but very little and it doesn't stand out very much once applied on the skin. I have medium skin and this product gives off a nice coloring. I would be very careful with fair and light skin, though. I think this product would look rather orange/brown/red on a person with fair and light skin.

Coverage: ***** (5 stars of 5)

This is a bronzer and is not met to cover blemishes, scares, moles, etc. This is simply to give you a sunkissed look. Now this bronzer does cover some redness and discoloration, so it can be used for that. This is a very light weight bronzer also, so you don't get a caked on look to your makeup. You can easily apply this bronzer over foundation, whether powder or liquid, without disturbing the foundation. You can give yourself a little more coverage with a double coating, but keep in mind this will also darken the color a little. Just to test this product out - I applied 5 coats to the back of my hand. There was no sign of caking up.

Application Life: **** (4 stars of 5)

Application life is generally a star dropper. This application life was average lasting. I would say around the 6-7 hour mark, you will start to see a fade in coloring. The shimmer tends to last a little longer than the coloring. If you apply this over a foundation or primer, you will still get around 6 or 7 hours of good coloring; it doesn't make a difference. The reason this product's application life didn't receive a lower rating is because it's so easy to apply. You just simply dab a powder brush in the bronzer and sweep over your face and blend onto the neck.

All-in-all, this is a nice bronzer for the price but not professional quality. This product received an overall rating of 4.2 stars of 5 (read on to find out why this product was given this rating): the bad - horrible casing, color not good for all skin tones, application life is only average; the good - good amount of product, multi-coating without caked look, and smooth/silky texture.

Price: $3.59 - $6.50
