Makeup Review: Coastal Scents' Rich Volume Mascara

I have been a makeup guru all my life and have been testing and reviewing products for the last five years. Each review is broken down into easily understood categories. Today we're taking a look at Coastal Scents' Rich Volume Mascara.

Casing and wand: (3 stars out of 5)

The actual appearance of this mascara is nothing special. It looks like every other mascara design out there. The bottom is a solid black and the wand handle is silver. The capping is the common screw on/off lid with the wand attached inside.

Now we are going to take a look at the wand. There is not really anything special about the wand either. The bristles are not close knit (which causes the lashes to separate instead of giving you more volume). The point of this mascara is to give you volume and it failed to do so.

Color: (3 stars out of 5)

There is only one color available for this mascara. It is a big disappointment because not everyone can use a dark black (it doesn't always look natural). I would have been much more pleased if a brown color was available.

The black is a matte color so there is no type of shimmer in the product.

Texture: (3.5 stars out of 5)

The texture of mascara is one of the most important factors. If the texture is not good, then the mascara is not. On the other hand, if the wand is not good - the texture will not do you much good either.

Rich Volume Mascara in all reality does not create much volume. It more or less adds black coloring to your lashes. It does not add volume and it does not add length.

This mascara is particularly "moist". This causes lashes to clump together when drying or it causes mascara to rub off on your skin during the drying process. Also, mascara that is too moist causes flaking later on.

Application life: (3 stars out of 5)

Much like every other feature of this mascara, I was not impressed with the application life. I got approx. 3 hours of full wear before the product began to flake off and fade. I had to reapply throughout the day and it got to be frustrating.

There is nothing you can do to prolong the life of Rich Volume Mascara.

All-in-all, I was not pleased with this mascara in the least. Rich Volume Mascara received an overall rating of 3.1 stars. If you are looking to add more volume or length to your lashes, I would encourage you to keep looking and save your money. If you are looking to simply add color to fair lashes, this may be the mascara for you. It will add color and depth to your eyes but it will not lengthen or thicken your lashes.
